Re: What did you get done 3/25/12 edition

Got the front end sorted out, slapped on an Efan and made a new coolant catch can.

new core support

replaced all the trim up front, lower grill support, right fender, bumper brackets and bumper

catch can before

catch can installed

and the fan, eventually ill make a shroud that covers the whole rad.

Now just need a hood and a grill and the body will be straight, then I can start working on my drop.

Got my stock 400 running on the engine stand. Not bad for a 35 year old original engine.

Re: What did you get done 3/25/12 edition

Busy weekend! I took off work Friday and did a front-end alignment on the 50 and my square. The 50 also got a new idler arm and drag link. My parts store didn't have all the inner and outer tie rods I needed so I'll go back under the truck another weekend.

Picked up a pair of new aluminum bomber seats (with foam and vinyl inserts) for my 50.

Went with my pinstriper this morning to look at a 63 Suburban he has owned for the last 3 years. It's time to move the old girl to his shop and get started on the build. The Burb will be his shop truck, satin finish, 73-87 front cross-member and a static drop. There's a lot of metal work to do but he's trading some graphics work for metal labor. Should be a fun build.

Re: What did you get done 3/25/12 edition

I also took friday off from work to work on other stuff

installed Thrush turbo mufflers (Ahh, good 'n quiet now), broke a brake line and replaced it, and drove around a bit. I also removed the choke from my Q-jet laying around becuase someone wired it up and it was causing the secondaries to stick open. Soon I'm going to order an adapter so I can run it on my Weiand Stealth intake, and toss the Edelbrock in the aluminum bin!!

Nothing truck related what so ever, went swimming with my daughter and took a walk with the dog.

Slapped on a fresh coat of wax. Planted new bushes in front of the house so didn't allow time to polish the shiny stuff.

Re: What did you get done 3/25/12 edition

I did some re-arranging of the garage so I could easily pull the 6.0/4l80e out (it's on a 'custom' dolley to allowing moving it around). I have a guy that's been wanting to buy it for what I paid so I'm going to let it go....

Truck wise I tried getting more stuff done on the dually. I needed an exhaust u-bolt/hanger arrangement to suspend the exit side of the mufflers but couldn't find anything local. I'm going to see what we have @ work in SS material. If I can't find anything, I might just fab my own mild-steel stuff up. In an attempt to keep moving forward, I decided to get the oil-pan & trans dipsticks mounted. of course, neither one fit like I would have liked. The oil-pan unit was too large to fully seat into the pan sleeve & the trans unit was a little too loose for my taste (these are new Lokar parts). I think I have them tweaked well enough to do the job but neither is installed. I had to do some color touch-up on the oil-an dipstick housing & clean-up the trans dipstick opening so some silicone would adhere.

I also did some initial clean-up & sanding on the 'new' wheels/center-caps for the dually. These things were pretty scuffed up but I was able to get most of the deep scratches out. The caps are currently up to 320 grit & looking much better. I just got going on the front wheels when the DA tossed the foam pad off. I'll have to get a new pad & then will get back after it later in the week (sometimes it takes a little extra work to make the 'free stuff' presentable).

Re: What did you get done 3/25/12 edition

I set up my home stereo system and surround sound in the basement then sat down and watched Sucker Punch to enjoy it. I went with my wife to buy a couple old metal milk cans that she ( meaning me ) wants to clean up and paint. Went to the movie Hunger Games last night... not bad.......... interesting movie. Scrounged up a cherry picker and engine stand for when I start to remove the engine in my 81 shorty. Also checked in with my sandblaster / powdercoater and I should have my rally rims back by this coming weekend. Then I'll mount the tires and order some chrome rings and put them back on so I can move it around again. Also found some Rockford Fosgate 2 way 6.5" speakers for the rear doors on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cleaned the basement and computer room......... Not a bad weekend of getting things done.

Changed oil in my 07 Ram and the wife's 95 Saab. Rotated the tires on my 95 Olds and my wife's 04 Suburban. Charged the ac in my 07 Ram. Buttoned up the front end rebuild and started mounting the MegaShifter in my 77 square.

I painted it with Duplicolor acrilic enamel gloss black(DA1600, I think) then Duplicolor crystal clear. Then added 3/4 in chrome trim across the middle. When I did my old grill I just sprayed the black on it, the grill was in bad shape so I didnt spend much time on it. It didnt last long either. I took my time with the new one plus with the clear on it I hope it wont start chipping from road rash.

Got rid of my old bouncy bench seat and installed my new seat that I pulled out of a '97 F350. The truck rides like a cadillac now
