Detroit Truetrac?

I know these get mixed reviews, but Im just curious if anybody here is actually running one and has any +/- feedback on it.

Does anybody know if its actually made in the USA? Ive been researching, but cant seem to find any 100% proof of where it is actually made.

I know the eaton is king of the hill, and ive never broke one, but Im thinking about trying the truetrac just out of curiosity.

What do you guys think?

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

I ran one in the D44 front 8f a '74 Chevy truck. It had 35" Ground Hawgs for part of that time, which were later swapped for some 40" Regul Trailblazers. That same truck had a Detroit Locker in a 14bolt rear. Both performed flawlessly with a 454, 4spd and a very grippy clutch. I'm sure that the 40"tires are well over the rated capacity of the Tru-Trac, but it was fine, despite county fair pulling competitions with smaller tires and heavy mudding with the bigger ones. It would be my choice again.

I have one behind a 450 hp motor in my DD '69. I beat the snot out of it. I'd recommend it, well worth the money.

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

I have one in the S60 in my wagon. It runs low 11's at 4,200 lbs with a healthy 512, TKO600 and 315 drag radials. I haven't had an issue yet.

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

I have one on my Blazer. I haven't beat on it yet but definitely works well in the snow here.

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

The reason I bought it over others was there are no clutch plates to wear out and no ratchet gear to tear out. I had a Detroit locker in my 77 with 33/12.5s and tore out that ratchet gear, have the same one in my Nova with zero problems but it only goes straight and not over rocks/ditches and mud.

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

Well, now that we've established that these are a good idea, where's the best place to get one? Summit, JEGS, or is there another supplier with a better deal?

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

I bought mine from Summit along with new gears and a master install kit. Figure Jegs is just as good of place as well I have had good luck with either place.

Re: Detroit Truetrac?

This interest me as well. I think this is the one I would need for my truck.
