steering wheel removal
Two questions:
1. How do I get the nut off that's behind the horn button? I tried with a socket wrench, but the wheel kept on spinning, which made it pretty tough. 2. What do I need in order to pull the steering wheel off. I have a harmonic balancer puller, will that work or do I need a steering wheel puller?

well you shold have the truck on the ground, that'll keep the wheel from spinning, and just use a good deep well socket. to remove the wheel you need a puller or you can try the ghetto method,but beware if your wheel is bad this will break it prolly. Rock and shake and pull that sucker like your life depends on it, it'll come off.

best way i have found to pull the wheel off, is to back the nut off the stuf untill its level with the end of the bolt (this way you dont screw up your threads) then get a hammer! lol. use a piece of hard wood or somthing.. and beat on the stud once or twice. it all ways comes off.... probably not good for your coloum but it works!

Wiggling and pulling will not work, you will destoy the wheel before it budges. It is pressed on there.
The hammer thing will work, but yes, it can bugger up the threads. Been there too. Your harmonic balancer puller oughta work. It is the same princable, and most are good for either/or. |

World's best steering wheel puller. Use 5/16 bolts, puller is made of 5/16" stainless, always in my toolbox, bolts press against steering shaft.

When I had manual steering, I could loosen the nut 1 or 2 turns and withing a day or two of driving the wheel would break loose. And no, this wasn't as crazy as it sounds...
