Time to do front pads on the hoe. a few questions

Well it is time to do the front pads on the 2000 NBS tahoe. I was wondering if you could tell me the size of the caliper torque drive bolts? are they a 45? or a 50?(been a long tiem and i don't have the right one need to buy one) Also The pads were done the last time we did the rotors which was at about 86k. The tahoe now has around 110k on it do you think we should have the rotors turned or just put new pads on? I know that we are supposed to check for clearances and all.

I would turn the rotors. If you can stand the down time run them down to a local shop and get them turned it is worth the money. If your pads only lasted 24k they probably ok more than likely you had some pretty forgiving pads, but it also sucks to put it all back together and have vibration. Just my thoughts.

I got lifetime pads and i am not sure if the brake job was done then. This is my dads tahoe. Thanks for the info on the size and the advice. the shop that last inspected the brakes said the rotors did not need mechianing but that they inner pads wear 90% shot.

From my understanding you should always have them turned or replaced when replacing the pads. I just did mine a couple weeks ago and brand new rotor's only cost $55 a piece.

Brakes on these NBS trucks are a breeze with the four wheel discs.
24K is way too quick, pads on my 2000 GMC truck lasted over 80K and I'm a heavy driver

Thanks again for the input. The rear rotors and pads and ebrake shoes were done in 2004. I am not sure what the exact millage was but it was probibly far less then 86k. I have heard the same on the rotors too. At my school we3 used to turn the rotors most of the time when we did pads. on a few occasions we did not. Also not many shops are open saturday. Tghe rotors are no groved at all they are in great shape.

Actually in the GM service manuals, it says to NOT machine or replace the rotors unless they have major grooves or runout issues. Most shops will tell you otherwise to increase profits, and because years ago, you could turn rotors about 3 times before they were under spec. Now they only put enough meat on the rotors to get them through 1 turning if that. Anywhere the manufacturer can shed weight, they are, and that is one of the areas they have done it. We used to turn police car rotors on a daily basis. Now, when they have worn out a set of pads, there is not enough rotor to turn. Things sure have changed...

I agree, on the 1999+ trucks I have heard that very thing from my GM buddies.

I ran my original rotors until I had about 160K on my GMC, last summer I replaced them with powerslot zinc plated rotors
