Motors

Hi, I am new to the hole chevy thing, but i gotta say, They are built like a rock.

Anyway, i really wanna do some real custom work on my truck, and this is the only catagory that covers my question.

Ok, i wanted to know, what kinda power is there out of comming out of the 7.0 liter chevy (427), and what is the realibility of this motor vs. something such as the 454 or 400.

Also does anyone know what kinda mods are necessary for a "super 10" to fit down into a chevy?

Re: Motors

Welcome to the board. It all depends on which 7.0 liter engine you are talking about. GM has the BBC 7.0 427 for trucks and the new style small block 7.0 liter. On the chevy trucks any gm engine can be dropped in with some modifications. I am not familiar with the "super 10".

its the gen 2 bbc 7.0 liter

the super 10 is a large truck transmission. Its basically 5 speed spit into lo/hi ratios. It can handle up tp 1500 ft/lbs of torque outta the box. its the same length as a 700R4, but us wider by like 4 inches.

Re: Motors

I think the 427/7.0l truck engines are tall deck low rpm engines about 260hp 385lbft torque, 3000rpm max, 4 rings on the pistons. As a stump puller or a dump truck or grain hauler they are great. The blocks are used for the start of the 572ci engines bored and stroked. The "super 10" would fall in the same place, long stroke between gears would make it not suited for banging gears between stop lights and to heavy. In a pickup with a 4.10 rear it might make good fuel mileage. The engines are tough and take a lot of abuse. A guy down the street use to have a C60 tandem rear dump body, used every day to haul dirt, rock and saw dust. He would replace the engine every two years or so before he got rid of the truck. But he worked it hard every day.

Re: Motors

Ok, so the super 10 will fit right?

Also, The 427 (7.0 liter) could be made to have some more power, right? Maybe headers, a bigger carb, maybe a mid RPM cam?

This should make a hell of a pullin machine when done right??

thanks

Re: Motors

well what are you going for? torque or horsepower, match the cam too the application, if this is gona be torque RV cam rocks, then you dont need new carb, if horsepower a higher lift cam and a carb too feed it fuel would be needed. hope that helped
