nitrous question for a buddy of mine

i am asking this question for a buddy of mine who wants to runner a smaller shot of nitrous.

he has a 350 bored .30 over, with and eagle street/ strip rotating assembly, the crank is cast steel, keith black pistons, aluminum heads, 200cc with 2.02/ 1.60 valves with bronze guides, comp extreme energy .507/.510 cam flat tappet, roller rockers, edlbrock super victor, with a 670 holley carb.

it is a freshly rebuilt engine with 0 miles at the moment. he wants to know how much nitrous can this motor handle.

thanks david

Forged or cast pistons? Ring gap? I personally wouldn't spray more than 150 on a cast crank even with good pistons/rods/rings. If it's got cast pistons and tight ring gaps, she won't handle much if you want it to last very long.

If so, then special attention needs paid to the ring gaps. If you gap them to n/a specs and spray it, you're gonna lift ring lands quick. With proper ring gaps, I'd spray up to 125 (properly tuned) on that motor.

I agree 100%.Problem is common motor was built then the nitrous idea hit. Its always better when you build it to be run with nitrous. personaly I always build my personal motors like they are inteded to be run with nitrous. This way Im safer and with me I know theres always a chance.
Tell your buddy hes better off keeping it at 100 hp or less shot IMO.

you exactly right, he built it up to be a mild engine. and then he had the idea to run nitrous haha

Re: nitrous question for a buddy of mine

cast crank and hyper pistons will take 100hp.
if you go to 150hp you need to make sure to pull 6-8 degrees of timing and make sure the fuel supply is adequate. those pistons don't take alot of heat.

that said. i've been spraying a 150 shot to my LT1 roadmaster wagon for several years and it comes with hypereutectic pistons.

He best 100% be sure the ring gaps are correct on those keith black pistons or he will be sweeping parts up. Do a google search about Keith black pistons. They are super sensitive to proper ring gap. I would have personally used a different piston but hes got what hes got already.

Your Roadmaster LT1 comes with Mahle pistons not Keith Black . They will take the spray .

For your buddies motor i would put a sniper 100-150 or powershot 125 kit on it . They have fixed jet sizes and all he has to do it maintain bottle pressure , ensure proper timing and fuel pressure . Also the motor needs some miles on it . The more breakin miles the wider the ring gap will get . Without knowing the ring gap , i would for sure do a good break in and not spray it til it had say 3-5000 miles on it .

i think hes getting an edlebrock kit than go be adjusted from 50-100 or 50-150, i forget, ether from what you guys are saying, he should be fine with that. and by they way the engine was built and the rings were ground by a professional drag racer whos been building hes own engines for 30 plus years. so the motor is going to be a reliable motor.
