Western Drop Spindles

I got some Western spindles for a good deal today..Are they the same as CCP about using 71-87 brake components?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
What year spindles did you buy?
63-70?
71-72?
73-87?

Re: Western Drop Spindles

yes 71 -87 work but if you want to keep your 6 lugger than use a 92 2500 ( under 7300 GVW) disc..it all bolts on but you will need the covertion adjuster from CPP to adapt the pre 71 center link to the newer tie rod end

Im doing the same thing..took alot of homeowrk to find this out

Western spindles are the spindles that you get from CPP. At least that's what I got with my kit. There are differences depending on year.

Re: Western Drop Spindles

If you got Western spindles from CPP, they are the 71-72 type. The other years they sell are their own brand (stamped with CPP logo). I have them on my SWB truck and they fit like a glove, zero issues.

To answer your question, yes 71-87 disc brake stuff works, and you will need 71-72 ball joints and tie-rod ends.

Re: Western Drop Spindles

hey Tex ,

what rubber line did you use to your calipers??and what adjuster it looks like a stock part??

one thing I have learned is to buy just the spindles and tie rod adjusters.....the rest of the parts you can usually get locally..this saves a ton in shipping.....my thought was if something ever happens to a disc like it warped or something do I have to go back to my vender to get the disc...these spindle makers don't make the discs, calipers or pads, they use off the shelf parts then re$ell them to us...a good parts man wll find out what it is...like I said for the 6 lug pattern the 1992 chevy 2500 ( under 7300lbs) discs are the ticket about $60 at Napa (and no shipping) it also cure the use of modern wheels up front but I'm not sure about how they fit on the rear axle since I'm using stock 6 lug rallies all the way around

I seem to recall 6-lug 88-98 rotors don't fit 71-87 spindles. The same swap can be done using 88-98 spindles though.

Hotrucks, every single inch of brake lines on my truck are unaltered stock 80 model stuff. It's all 100 percent bolt on from the master
cylinder to the wheels. The hoses are
braided stock 73-87 hoses from Summit,
Russell brand.

thanx Tex..what about the tie rod adjuster??

Scotti I brought my spindles (western) and 5 lug discs that came with it to Napa (Lee) he took all the measurements and came up with the 92 2500 under 7300lbs ( keep in mind the 3/4 ton model is diff than the others) he grabbed one off the shelf and we slid it on...sized it up every which way..it was exactly the same except it was 6 lug

When I bought mine at the counter all of the other years were CPP brand. The only Westerns they had then were the 71-72. I guess they sell whatever they have at the time. Have you ever had a problem with yours? Mine fit great and I drive the truck daily.

OP- I would take one of the spindles to a parts house and check to see which year tie rod ends/ball joints fit.

That's the first I've heard of the direct swap capability. It's good to have a parts guy that investigates possibilities.

Thanks for all the responses, now all I need is time to work on the truck. I work for Budweiser in Nashville and we lost our building and a half a million cases of beer in the flood we had here a couple of weeks ago , so we have been working around the clock to get back to normal.

Angry Re: Western Drop Spindles

Wow, that explains some things. I got my drop spindles from CPP and they were Western. They were supposed to use 73-87 rotors, which I purchased local from Napa. However, the rotors don't seem to fit right. Maybe they are supposed to be early model ? had a really hard time with tie rod ends also. Even called CPP to inquire if I had the right spindles and was told yes. Hmmmm...

sea foam if your staying 6 lug you need the 92 2500 disc but it needs to be the under 7300lb version..

but I thoght the tie rods where 73/87..what did you find??
