how long to wait before sanding BC/CC

I just sprayed a panel last night with 2 coats base, 3 coats of clear. first time painting color, and I must say I am happy with the results. how long do I need to wait before wetsanding and buffing? and what paper do I sand with and what is the best way to go about buffing? I have a nice 6 inch variable speed buffer. what pads, polish, and steps should I take to get a great finish? wool? foam? both?

thanks

Re: how long to wait before sanding BC/CC

Chris we just finished with mine last week.

You can start wet sanding now only wet sand what you plan to buff up that day though. If you have a good DA the 3M trizact 1500 dry and 3000 foam will do wonders. I used the 3M Finese step 1,2 and 3 with Wool pad and the blue then finally the black pad.

I also used 2000 wet paper on the curves and spots that needed hand work. 3 days later it was done... well are they ever really done.

The longer you wait the better it will look!!! That way you only hafta do it once because it will shrink back!! It's easier to cut and buff a few days after paint just bc it's still soft but you will hafta go back and touch it up..

Re: how long to wait before sanding BC/CC

I usually do it within a day or two after painting, but screamin is correct, over time the paint will shrink into sand scratches underneath if your undercoats weren't finish sanded with a fine enough paper.
