I am capable of doing the work but need someone to tell me what that work is. Please help TONY

Re: trans question

The 700r4 does NOT require computer control. It has a tv cable and lockup is controlled electrically. There are multiple kits on the market to control lockup in a 700r4. Off the top of my head I know tci makes a complete kit and I think painless wiring makes a kit as well.

Re: trans question

Thank you for the info. This site is the best.I will look at the thread you mentioned.Iwas confused becouse they mentioned that there was a cable that needed to be adj with carb throttle linkage,or you could distroy the trans. I guess it would have been easyer if i had gotton an older 700r4 that did not have the electric hook up.

Re: trans question

the TV cable is adusted to the carb. lockup kits are available from many companies.

but the big issue is your speedometer might be electronicaly controlled in that newer 700r4. and i bet your old truck has a cable driven speedo... as far as i know there is no kit to convert electric speedo controller to a cable

Re: trans question

If it has an electronic speedo drive you can use a custom gauge with it. There is an adapter to run a mech. speedo off an electronic drive but it is expensive. All 700R4 trans have lockup converters unless a trans rebuilder has specifically changed it over. You don't have to hook up the lockup but it is best. You must hook the cable up correctly though.

Re: trans question

For the speedo, try tachman1 on eBay. He sells Cable-X-30 boxes for about $300. These boxes will convert an electrical transmission speedo output to a mechanical feed to drive the older mechanical speedos. I'm using one on my '69. A little pricey, but it works. Might be cheaper to change the tail section to mechanical since those parts are rather prolific for the 700R4. Unlike the 4L60E/80E, which is more expensive since they are electronic to begin with and need custom parts to go the other way.

Re: trans question

YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY any of that take a puller and pull the reluctor ring off the out put shaft and buy all the stuff for a regular mechanical gear . the out put shaft still has holes for the speedo gear in it
