column shift pattern conversion

I'm going to try and find a junkyard steering column tomorrow. Can I convert a 3 speed automatic column shift to a 4 speed (700R4) auto column shift without too much difficulty?

Re: column shift pattern conversion

should'nt be a problem as the detents are in the transmission. There is one from park to the reverse spot but that won't effect anything. You will love the OD and the better mileage it brings not to mention the snap it will give you on take off as the 1st ratio is 3:08 to 1 compared to the th 350 2:56 to 1 and the power glide 1:82 or 1:76 to 1. Oh don't want to leave out the th400 2:48 to 1. Now if those are off any I apolgize they are from memory and I belive to be correct.
