flywheel comparison

The truck i have is a 1978 chevy with a 1991 Chevy 454 in it. The previous owner swaped in fhe 454 in the place of the factory 6.2l diesel engine.....my question is will the flywheel off the diesel work on the 454,reason for the question is i believe the diesel flywheel is on the 454 and ive sheered teeth of the starter and replaced it twice because it doesn't seem to be lining up

Re: flywheel comparison

If its a auto its a flexplate but look it up on like jegs or summit see how many teeth it should have vs what you have on it.

Re: flywheel comparison

Cant find thw diesel flexplate on there so i cant match them up...my guess would be that its probably the same difference between a small and big block flex plate right?

Re: flywheel comparison

No it won't work. 454 is externally balanced.

Re: flywheel comparison

An externally balanced flexplate will have weights welded on the back side of it...
