axle question?
I want to swap 3/4 axles into my jimmy but I don't want to have custom drive shafts made and change the pinions on the transfer case could I put the 1/2 axle pinions on the 3/4 axles ?.....when I say pinion I don't mean the ring and pinion gears I'm talking about the flange that connects the u-joint to the axle and transfer case (just for clarity)

What you're talking about are called "yokes"
The front axle yoke on a 3/4ton axle should be the same 1310 joint as a 1/2 ton. The rear axle yoke if you're looking at a 14bolt full floater will be a 1350 style yoke. To make your life easier they make conversion u-joints that have two caps that will fit in your stock drive shaft and two caps that will fit into the axle yoke. For later model K5's the joint is Precision 447. not sure if the cap size will fit in the earlier model shafts. If not there is a joint out there that will work. |

I put a semi-float 14 in my Jimmy. It had a 1330 u-joint. I used a conversion. I had already had a custom rear cv shaft built for my truck so I had to move the diff back about 1" to use it without mods. I re-drilled the spring perch to make that happen. Other than that, kept my 1/2 ton shafts. Actually, I kept my original Dana 44 front and swapped the 3/4 ton 10 bolt brakes on to it.

The 3/4 ton 14 bolt semi floating axle has a longer case (from axla centerline to end of yoke) than the 1/2 ton 12 bolt. You may have to shorten your rear dive shaft to maintain the proper amount of "stroke" in the slip shaft. If you do not, and the rear of the truck is compressed, the drive shaft counld reach the end of its stroke and either punch a hole in the back of your transfer case or break a u-joint/yoke. Just a heads up.
