Re: need to find trans crossmember for a 4 speed manual

Be aware! there are three different x-members;

1) BBC x-member
2) SBC x-member
3) Inline 6 x-member

Make sure you get the right one, or you will have a heck of a time lining everything up, ask me how I know.

That's because these trucks didn't originally use a crossmember under the tail of the manual transmissions. Instead, they had a crossmember under the bellhousing and the trans simply hangs off the back of the bellhousing.

It sounds as though your truck has a 4-speed car transmission. If that's the case, an automatic trans crossmember should fit. But like Dano said, be sure to get one that matches your engine mounting position.

Do you have a truck 4 speed?

I have a '67 C20 with a 292 and 4 speed transmission with the "granny" first gear. There is no rear crossmember under the transmission. The rear crossmember is directly under the bell housing and there's no way rust could ever get started. The rest of my truck is a rust bucket but that area has a thick coat of grease and dirt.

Re: need to find trans crossmember for a 4 speed manual

I have one, but you should make sure what you need first. Mine is from a shortbed 3-speed, don't know if it's a 6 or an 8, it just came on the frame i bought. I can take some pics if you want. Might be good to have the pics so that we all know the difference.

anyone have any pics of the different crossmembers and what they're for? Here's mine, not sure the exact one but the guy I bought it from said it was a 3-speed behind a SBC. But that's just going from what he said, I can't confirm.
