speedometer help

Hello, I am in need of some advice, I really need to get the speedo working in my truck before I get nailed for driving to fast...

I have a 77 chev, it has 295/50r-15 rears, running 3:73 gears, I installed a 700r4 from a 93 truck into it, had an electric gauge drive, so switched it over to the bits from an 80's 700r4 with mechanical drive, the speedo sits pegged all the time, if I put a ratio adapter in it slows it a bit but still not close.

Where do I start? what gears do I need on the tail shaft, and speedo drive gear? or am I hooped with the ratio/tire size I am running

any help would be great

thanks

Re: speedometer help

To keep from getting a ticket you could borrow a GPS to see what your speed actually is.

There's a transmission/speedometer site that tells you what you need to check but I don't have the url handy. Maybe someone else can post it for you.

Re: speedometer help

You need to figure out how fast you are going before you can decide on speedo gears. GPS would be great for that. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm

Re: speedometer help

ya I have carried my gps, and cruising speed is around 2200rpm, but I have unhooked the speedo drive, cause it just bounces off the peg all the time.

will look into the transmission center

thanks

That's the site I was referring to. Good info in there and also do a search on You Tube for videos on it.

Let us know how you do.
