12 bolt axles

I have a 12 bolt from 66 impala- 5 lug axles 31 5/16 long to inner flange c clip

Will the 12 bolt truck axle 6 lug fit with same spline count and length
I would know if some could give me the spline diameter and the bearing surface diameter. going in a 56 3200 deluxe cab with bb 402 and 400 auto, want to keep 6 lugs like stock. where can I find these specifications? summit racing can't look up info.

Re: 12 bolt axles

I can't help on the splines or bearing surface diameter, but the closest length in a off the shelf truck 12 bolt 6 lug axle, is going to be 30.5".

My mistake, I misread the measurement in your original post

Re: 12 bolt axles

I read the post also Capt fab...from what I read, the man wants 6 lug axles in a 12 bolt car diff? The measure sounds dam close to me, as the 12 bolts all ran a 30 spline axle,(except the very early ones) & the Impalas ran the big bearing (same as the truck)? Just a thought....peel the drums/back plates from a 12 bolt truck rear(70-81). I have not tried to cross this animal, but don't think that .035 is an issue on the lenght per side? To the orig poster, do your own measure.... the truck axles are 1.620 on the outer end for the bearing, as were the Impalas. If you look chevelle/nova/ Camaro, you will find a smaller outer bearing...don't remember on the exact size, but think around 1.5....they also had smaller brakes on them. As a thought, you can call Moser , & speck out what you have & order accordingly. They are very good to deal with, & I have seen promt shipping Longhorn

The spline is 30, truck or car....'64 or 65 up, with the 12 bolt. Some of the early 60's trucks had a coarse spline axle (Capt fab can info you on that) My bet , is that you can go mid 70's on a 12 bolt 4x4, & pull the axles ,drums & back plates & be good to go? Best of fun, Longhorn

I may have missed it by a yr....let us call 65-82, same / same on the internals, on a truck diff? Axle length will be different? Mid 69, to 70, will have the same length axles, As 71-82 On the 12 bolt.....also the same spline Longhorn
