67 C-10 w/ big back window???

I've seen a couple of these trucks, so what's the deal? Are these a late production 67? Highly optioned truck? Special order? What are the production numbers?
Thanks for the help in advance.

It was an option in 67, 20% of 67's have a big back window.

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

'67 was the last year for the tradition that went back to the Advance Design. A standard truck had a typically small back window,as they did since the first factory pickup. After WWII,the new Advance Designs were offered with corner windows as an option,55-59 Task Masters were offered with a wrap around window as an option,60-66 was offered with a full width back window, and so were '67s. From '68s-on the big back window was here to stay as standard equipment.

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

I have read that the 68 Federal Standards required a larger rear window with more square inches of area than the smaller glass. A larger glass that just met the standard would have been too close to the size of the large glass so Chevy went ahead and made it standard.

Now that is some info that I've never heard before! Very cool if true!

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

I don't believe there was any data kept on production numbers of individual options, which the A10 panoramic rear glass was. I can imagine why...what a PIA that would be. It was just another option to GM.
Not too sure about the Fed requirement thing. It's possible, since '68 was the year many new safety requirements kicked in. It's largely seen as the first year of the "safety era" we are living in now. There were mandates prior to '68,but this was the first year with "sweeping" requirements

On the C40's (and 4500's) and up, was the small back window still standard? Most of the big trucks around these parts have small windows.

There never was a federal standard mandating the size of the rear glass in any pickup truck. Ford had a "panoramic" rear window since 1960. Chevy resisted installing the larger glass due to the higher manufacturing cost but threw in the towel early in the 1967 production run and offered both. According to the GM historical Center 237 67 trucks were delivered with the small rear window. The rest had the larger wrap around rear windows.

They offered both since 1955. I would think the 5 window-ers cost more too.

I used to have a 1959 GMC fleetside that had that panoramic window. I sure miss that truck! Best window I ever had!

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

In an above post the question was asked about the C40's and above with the small window. They did for the most part keep the small glass well into the 80's as the regs are different on the trucks with that large of a GVW. When we were still farming I remember my dad bought a new 76 GMC truck[6000ish] and it had the small glass in it. Jim

According to who? Only 237 '67 trucks came with the standard rear window? Which dealership were they talking about? Hey,no hard feelings, but none of this is very accurate. Think about it,I bet there's been more than that many members on this site with small window '67s

1947-1955 1st,1955 2nd-1959,and 1960-1966 pictures. Ford didn't offer a choice till 10 good years after GM

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

I figured the windows where made small for less chance of being broken when being loaded with things and or cause they knew someday I was coming along and that's the way I like them. Lol. I would like to see a 72 front on a small window cab.

Re: 67 C-10 w/ big back window???

To me it's like putting a 60 Chevy front clip on a 50 Chevy cab It's so obvious that it's not supposed to be that way that it's just odd to us Chevy guys but to a random person who doesn't know about 67-72's then it's probably not that odd
