Looks to be stainless I think. A magnet doesn't stick to it.

Must be chrome as a magnet doesn't stick to my chrome caps but does stick to stainless caps.

A magnet will not stick to brass as it is non ferrous. A lot of caps from 69-72 are chrome plated brass. Some stainless steel is magnetic, depending on the alloy used.

I already figured the chrome ones the base metal was brass. I cut one to make it 4wd and noticed it. So like the post said. They are made of brass then nickel and chrome plated.

I have chrome and stainless caps here and a magnet sticks to the stainelss caps and does not stick to the chrome caps.

I do have the lower right cap from set 2 in the lower right position. Close up pics show curb rash on that same cap.
