Speaking of scammers..

I just read FleetsidePaul's thread about the dog scammers. I'd imagine he's well on his way with his wife to pick up the dog and I hope it's a good trip. Anyway, I noticed there were 21 people in the general discussion area. Me, Liz, and 19 guests. Hard to imagine what guests are doing in the general discussion area. I found this website because I was searching for truck related topics online and I finally joined because it kept popping up with valuable threads... about my truck. Why are people reading threads about people they don't know on a website that they're not a member of??? Maybe all 21 of those folks will read this post, join, and tell us what they're doing here. One of the very cool things about general discussion is that people tell about things that are going on in their lives. I would recommend that you be careful how you do that, because way more random people from the internet are reading it than people you know from the site. Are we really that interesting? If so, why don't they join? The reason that general discussion is interesting to me is because I've seen your comments and trucks elsewhere on the site.

Re: Speaking of scammers..

I can understand your concern, but it may not be as it appears.
Personally I will get on here quite often & scan through the posts to see what's new, but I won't actually login unless I want to make a comment. I that situation I'm going to show up as a guest even though I'm a member. I imagine others do the same

Re: Speaking of scammers..

I have had many people tell me, in person, they visit the site. read it, but never joined. There are people who barely do the internet thing. There are many who lurk just to read, gain knowledge. I have had PMs from people with no posts. It seems they joined just to ask a question. They may have been reading for a while or may just found the site. It is true we have to watch what info we give. I'm sure some of those names are "hunters"

Good point and I had not thought of this.

I definitely understand all of what you guys said, and was on here a whole stack of times before I joined. But not in the general discussion area reading about personal lives. It's not odd to me that we get all kinds of visitors to the site. It's odd to me that at midnight on the west coast I was the only member in the general discussion area, but there were 19 non-members... Anywhere else on the site wouldn't give me a second thought.

My brother has a cherry '47 he is restoring and visits the site. I doubt very much that he has signed on

Re: Speaking of scammers..

Well, I leave a tab open with this site all the time, but after I leave my PC for a little while I have to log in again. I never turn off the PC, it just goes to sleep.

So, maybe the web page is showing me (and others) as a "guest" all night long after my log in has expired ???

Or maybe the KGFBI is monitoring all the politics that we don't talk about?

(just in case, No I do NOT have Nancy Pelousy's laptop )

Re: Speaking of scammers..

I come here all the time and dont log in. I only log in when I have a question or want to add my "2cents" worth.

Im sure Im not the only one that does that. Im only seen as a guest when Im not logged in.

Re: Speaking of scammers..

I have my computer set to automatically log in. I never worry about getting ripped off. Which probably explains why I have been ripped off so many times.

Whatever... I have nothing to hide. In fact I run around my neighborhood naked as a Jaybird.

I'm popular with my lady neighbors.
