Let’s see how these rising gas prices affect the prices on our 12 MPG trucks….

I’m not sure gas prices will effect squarebody truck prices all that much because most here don’t daily drive em. There is still a chance we will see some downward pressure on truck prices though.

Summer is not even here yet, people will be out in droves due to pent up demand, hold on tight, gas will be going up….quite a bit I’m afraid (hope I’m wrong).

I still daily drive my '88, but luckily I am only 2.5 miles from work. I sure hope we don't see those crazy prices we saw back in '08....

My 2019 Silverado with 5.3 gets 13.1 mpg average. Not much different than my old trucks.

I daily drive an 03 Chevy with a 6.0L. The fuel mileage is terrible. I might as well have a carbureted 454 in it. Most guys I know with trucks have them because that’s what they are into. Gas could go to $10 a gallon and they would still keep the truck. They would just buy a work car to go along with it.

we are are already at $ 6.00 a gallon here in B.C.. They say will be 8.00 by the years end. I drive 80 chev truck stock 350 , a 454 blazer and a 89 jeep cherokee and they get bad mileage for a 6 cyl. but I do have a mountain bike

I just picked up a 72 GMC a couple of months ago with a 454 in it and I'm sure driving it 60 miles a day to work probably won't be as frequent as my diesel 72.

My '87 gets around 20-21 mpg.

Fuel injected V6, manual overdrive with 3.73 gears.

Sure hope gas doesn't go through the roof... Though it won't stop me from daily driving them since these are all I own.

Kinda figure I could be like other guys my age who are into the new fangled late model stuff and have a $400-700 a month truck payment, not to mention insurance.

The cost of paying for and repairing the newer trucks (in my opinion) outweighs the cost of keeping my 3 squares registered, insured, maintained and fueled.

And if truck prices drop down some, I'm good with that... still have to locate a crew cab for a road trip truck.

Had something drop on the tailgate of my 2019 Silverado. Because there's no manual release, and no way to over ride the remote release, I couldn't open it. So, took it to a body shop and was told they can't repair because it's aluminum. Total cost to replace was over $2k.

IMO, the use of a classic vehicle for most of us, if we already have one, we be the same, weekend fair weather toys, regardless of the price of fuel, as long as fuel is still available. But, with the already overpriced classic vehicles of the last decade or so, and the increase in fuel and everything else, younger buyers will be left out and it will start becoming a smaller hobby for the rich or affluent only. Less people, less demand, lower classic truck prices eventually.

i got gas yesterday for my 77 k3500 crew cab with a ls2 6.0 it has dual tanks just one tank full 20 gallons was $75 it only gets 8 mpg.its my daily driver.. i also have a 79 k30 with the 6.0 it gets the same mileage i am on a fixed income and they are my only way to travel so these gas prices are putting a hurting on me .

Being retired, my square only gets fired up for a Home Depot run. i get 10 mpg no matter whether the truck is loaded or empty, freeway or city, uphill or downhill, towing or not.

Ya im 26 and the only reason I have a 65 c10 and a 78 k15 is because the 65 was my greatgrandads in a field from 1972, and the 78 was parked since 07 and i found the owners and they cut me a deal since it was on someone elses property. Even just going to car shows without a nice paintjob gets the side eye or snide comments from the old timers. Its not fun.

Yup. About 17 mpg here. 85 k20, Edelbrock EFI and NV4500.

That's not bad at all! What engine, gears, and tires do you have? Is that highway or mixed driving?

My 85 K20 gets 15 highway has a 700r4 350 with RV cam and 336 heads performer manifold original Rochester 4bbl and 3.23 gears . Because of the gears I drive in D not OD trans hunts to much for my tastes probably be okay on flatlands.

From my perspective I have an Equinox to DD so until I go on my US Tour gas prices don't drive my truck habit.

Some things for comparison..

All of my 400/454/455 Olds, Buick, Chevy, Pontiac big cars got 12.5-13mpg. The 396 impala managed 13.

1980 C20 250 six 3OTT 3.43 235R80 16.5's. Dad got 15, I could get 17.

1971 Longhorn, stout 402 (would not run on 87 octane), TH400, unknown gear, 9.5mph, 9mpg with 20K trailer behind it.

1990 C10 4.3 700r4 3.08's regular cab long bed, 21-23mpg all day for 200,000+ miles.

Flash forward.. 2017 K10 regular cab long bed, 5.3, 4l60e, 3.08 gears, 20mpg over the last 20k miles. Plus goes like heck when you mat it.

Best so far, 1987 R10 6.2 diesel 700R4 3.08's, 23mpg, 26 if you drove 55 everywhere.

What I figured out was the gas savings isn't what drives me, I just love my six bangers and my old trucks.

None of my gas rigs get good MPG. My 72 gets 7.5mpg. My 57 and 86 are both dumps so no need to check them. Just gas them up. When I need to go somewhere I take the old jetta TDI. 260k on the clock and still getting low 40s for mileage.

That sucks. My 02 suburban 4x4 5.3 gets 15 usually.

Regardless of gas prices I dont see these trucks going down in price. The people who buy the high dollar trucks aren't worried about putting 100 in the tank. No if we go into a full fledged recession then all bets are off.

That sucks. I recently drove a rented 2020 suburban with 5 family members and luggage from AZ to Ohio and it averaged 18.5 mpg.

my crewcab is sitting right now, but not because of fuel prices.
when i do daily commute with it, i'm lucky, the shop is only a little over 4 miles from my house.
which is good, cause the 454 drinks prodigious amounts of fuel...
right now dailying the '90 stepper with a 350/5-spd and get about 12-14 mpg's
