fuel injection engine anyone??

I'm trying to get my 56 chevy pickup road worthy just got the c4 IFS and probably going with a 12 bolt rear and I have a built up 700r4 all I need to address is the Cab (cab corners, steps/rocker panels, the usual places) , and an engine. I have all the other parts to get it on the road. Im lookin to get a fuel injection engine maybe out of a silverado or LT1. LS motors are out of my price range for now. what efi motors would you guys recommend using and maybe have experience with?

Well, I think the LS is the way to go, I really think if you look around that you can get one for 3k. Saying that I just put a LT1/4l60e in my 38 coupe. And I am well pleased with it. The motor had been pulled in 98 out of a 97 vette with 23k miles on it. sence the last year for the LT was 97 it might be hard to find one with low miles. You can't build a SBC that will run or get close to the fuel milage of the LT'S or LS'S for any were close to the price of it. just my .02

Hey TK56,

I'm running a 1995 Impala SS LT1 (about 100,000 miles on it), a 700R4 and I paid $500 for the motor transmission, computer, wiring harness, cooling fans, fuse block, etc, etc - basically everything from the engine bay. As Blackdiesel stated these may be hard to find with low miles and they are expensive to rebuild but they get excellent gas milage and are very reliable. Just price out the Optispark distributor and Water pump for example. As your probably aware these LT1's & LS engines, and I'm talking specifically about the "Sequential Port Fuel Injected" produced from 1994 were found in Caprice Classics, Impalas, Fleetwoods Camaros, Firebirds and of course Corvettes. These motors at least from 1994 and newer were a quantum leap forward from the the previous TBI units, just check out the specs for power and gas mileage between 2 similar cars. They went from 180hp to 260hp and got 26% better gas milage in the Caprice/Impala.
If I had to do this by myself, with my limited knowledge of computer control, I would have gone old school with a carb but my friend who is a GM electrician has the lap-top computer to reprogram the ECM and help me get the correct electronic feed to my speedo to make it all work.

I know its not newtech but a buddy of mine has 8 of the old mechanical FI units complete off the old 57 chevys. Might look cool since not many around

That is one neat looking unti!
I don't mean to hijack the thread but I would love to get one of those injection units! Even if it wasn't functional, you could at least adapt a throttle body to the intake and it would have that look.

I used a harness from haywire, 550 bucks and it runs the 4l60e also. If you want motor only it 450. It's by far the easiest way to go. They even take care of the VATS for you.

then you need to go with a 5.3 from a later model truck or tahoe. the 5.3 is basicly an iron block LS1 and can be had for less than 1K, check ebay or your local salvage yard, they are very plentiful. get the harness and computer from the donor also. the newer 5.3's will do around 325 hp bone stock and they respond very well to mods. a cam. header and a tune and you will be close to the 400 hp mark. plus great diveability and fuel mileage. you can folow the link in my sig to see mine. good luck

you find ls1's for $900 often.

ebay harness for 380ish plus a computer. I forget exactly what year but I think a 2001 s-10 computer can be reflashed to run an ls1. which saves lots of money.

there no other way you can get 300 wheel horse power any cheaper and keep it OEM reliable.
