60-63 side glass

im looking into new glass for my 63 , what glass should be in it ? theyre asking with or without metal frames i dont have either so what should i go with? i prefer without so does the mean i can just buy it for the without frame option

63 light duty trucks came with the side glass without a metal frame surrounding the perimeter. 1963 Medium and Heavy Duty had a metal frame around the perimeter.

I believe you can use either glass, but need the corresponding felt channel in the door. My 1960 has the metal frames which are roughly 3/8” in width. The felt channel in the door has a gap or slot about ½” wide. If there are no frames the felt channel would be close to the thickness of the glass alone.

From what I’ve read in the past, framed glass was made of safety plate (like a windshield) whereas non-framed side windows were made of tempered glass. Although over the years I had plenty of old cars without framed windows and I always had new flat glass cut by a local glass shop out of safety plate. They just sanded the edges smooth.

I took all of my original GREY GLASS to the glass shop and they used them as templates to replicate them in GREEN TINTED, EASY EYE SAFETY GLASS. The windshield had been replaced in my truck before I purchased it and had the EASY EYE GLASS . The original door glass and back window was Grey. The tinted glass, RPO A11, was an option originally and usually installed in Air Conditioned trucks. When the sun hits a reflective object a little starburst is reflected. I originally thought there was a storm front following me on a sunny day. lol

My 63 has non-framed glass. Im converting my truck to framed glass as I like the chrome around the glass. The swap is easy, just have to get the correct weatherstrip for it. Thats why they ask framed or not. The framed glass I have came out of a 61 c-10 short fleetside.

The only problem with framed glass is the paint or chrome eventually gets worn and scratched from sliding in the track, paint does it worse than chrome.

the truck shop sells the vent windows for 16 ea and the side for 35 ea , i already got new front and rear glass , the weather strip kit is 185 $

I always wondered why some glass had metal and some didn't.

the bottom channel plate that the window sits in is different between the two types. probably could use the frame ones with non framed glass but not the other way around.
