I need some rear bumper Advice.

Hi I have a 71 C-10 that I have been working on for a while now, I plan on havinig it in the paint shop in July and I need to get a rear bumper for it.
I have seen a lot of rear bumpers that go for less than $200, but they are smooth and you can't tow anything with those bumpers. I want to be able to use my truck as a truck and I want a Ball hitch on my rear bumper.
I would like to see pics of your rear bumpers if you have a hitch on them or are running a hidden hitch, and let me know where you bought it. I'm looking for a chrome bumper.
One more thing has anyone tried installing a newer chevy bumper on trucks like ours.
Thanks

Re: I need some rear bumper Advice.

It takes some tweaking and mounting issues with the newer style bumpers. Because of the frame widths. But it can be done with a cutting torch, & welder anything is possible.

I say 4x4 shop, a good shop can make you one, it will last forever, 1/4"steel rear bumper cant go wrong with that plus you can get creative with the shape and maybe take it to get some chrome.

It will cost, but is worth it.

Re: I need some rear bumper Advice.

Why not use the custom chrome bumper and add a rear frame hitch. A hidden hitch or even U-haul has a frame hitch which bolts directly to the frame. It would cost about the same as having a custom made bumper. And a frame hitch gives you a little more protection if in case hit from behind. Just my .02 cents.

Check out www.earlyclassic.com for their hidden hitch. I have their's on my truck with a chrome sport bumper. If you want to use your truck as a truck you'd want to have a frame mounted receiver instead of a bumper ball.

if towing anything more than a skido, i say get a class 3 hitch. IMO bumper hitches should be illegal. Seen WAY too many falling apart, and still being used to tow with.

Something like this? It's on there pretty good I thought about taking it off since I don't plan on towing anything and it sticks out from the back of the truck by about a foot. But the wide bumper sure is nice to step on when you're getting in and out of the bed, so it's staying. But it sure is ugly

Re: I need some rear bumper Advice.

I agree with Powell72, I ahve the hidden hitch on my Chevy and my GMC. Its like the middle of the road, best of both worlds(looks and safety). Of course, witha class 3, you can haul just about anything. I guess alot depends on what kind of look you're after.
