1969 CST10 4x4 shortbed good deal?

Looking at this CST10 4x4
AZ truck but obviously well used.
Guy is at $8k firm.
It runs and drives.
Smokes a little on startup.
Driver front wheel bearing loose aka lots of play.
Needs windshield and lots of TLC
Frame has been welded by steering box
Rear leaf spring shackles have been welded to frame due to previous cracking
Currently has 350 engine and 350 auto trans
Was originally a 4 speed truck and guy says he has a 4 speed manual he will give with truck.
Guy also give a short bed frame if I want to clean it up and move everything to other frame.

As you can see in pics it’s rough but only rust through is the rockers, edge of cab floor and underneath cab supports. This caused cab to dent into bed a little bit.

I know these go for a lot but I still think 8k is kinda big and I’d be happier at 6.5k but he won’t budge.

What do you all think?

How do I add pics? Asks for url

Looks rough for Eight Grand.
Do they use Salt on the roads in Coconino County?

I'm jaded on current pricing. I bought a '68 C/10 in 1973 for $1200. Took me two and a half years to pay off. I paid $2300 for a '67 K/10 Suburban in 1993. I paid $3750 for a K/1500 Jimmy in 1995. And I just bought a 2003 C/1500 Tahoe for $2700.

Re: 1969 CST10 4x4 shortbed good deal?

They use salt but this truck was mostly down south in AZ.
The frame is all surface rust but no rust through.
Just seems like a lot of work for what he wants.
Seems like all of these start around 5k for very rough examples and supposedly shortbeds are worth more. Not sure how much 4x4 adds to price.
What’s a fair price $6k?

Re: 1969 CST10 4x4 shortbed good deal?

With all the frame damage that truck has obviously had a hard life. If I were to buy it I would plan on swapping frames. Too many previous repairs to the one under the truck.

Personally I would politely explain that the truck was only worth $5500 to me then hand him my card and wish him luck with the sale but it he cannot find a buyer to call me in a month or two.

Might be worth looking for a Long bed and cut it down if you Really have to have the Short Bed

Re: 1969 CST10 4x4 shortbed good deal?

Turns out my dad loves it and doesn’t mind the 8k price.

I’ll continue the search for a better condition one that isn’t 15-20k price.

Marketplace and Craigslist vices continue…

Salt is pretty effective on road ice but we all know its corrosive effect.
Apache and Navajo Counties use scoria, which is a crushed volcanic pumace -- locally reddish/brown. Aside from being extremly gritty, it washes off easy and is non-corrosive.
All ''Arizona'' trucks are from Southern AZ, just like all used trucks have a ''Corvette Engine.''

Best of both in NAZ. They gravel the city streets and salt interstate so you get rock chips then salt in the wound.

The market is so whacked right now it isn't even funny. Unfortunately, I do think that it is worth close to asking. I've seen worse.

Re: 1969 CST10 4x4 shortbed good deal?

So many trucks are getting cut down, original short bed prices are going up. 4x4s are going up even more. If the truck is all there and runs and drives I don’t think he is far off the price. Negotiate with him a little. I thinks its worth 6k or so.

I’d be happy at $6.5k. It’s definitely rough and the frame under it is ok but if restoring this I’d definitely swap to the other frame. Engine runs good, auto trans shifts fine and it’s all there. Body is very straight with just some minor dents. Needs floor boards and cab support metal underneath but mounts are solid.

At least guy is including the other frame and a 4 speed transmission if we want to swap back to a manual.

Guy was at $10 at pretty sure dad’s paying $8. He’s retired and lots of time so it will get a lot of attention restored as a driver except for paint.

I agree prices are crazy and have been for years and seems like no downturn in sight. Appreciate the replies!

You don't see a truck like this for sale where I live, ever. In any condition. If the SPID is intact and everything checks out (CST; SWB) I would buy it.

I have to say that is some kind of radiator shroud.

I uploaded 2 more pics. One of the SPID and another of the vin plate on cab. Some cowboy resourcefulness with the radiator shroud lol. It works but doesn’t look good.

if the SPID belongs to the truck it is not a CST, T-case shifter looks to be a 71 or 72- no big deal if it is. seems a little high priced to me but i haven't bought any 67-72s for a long time.
