68 Golden Anniversary Identification ????

A lot of people have been researching the golden anniversary trucks (68 chev). How do you identify one? What is the bottom line to make it an anniversary truck? Does it have to be loaded? 551 ivory/gold paint code? is there a special anniversary option?

The most important part of the 50th package will be the 551 (Ivory White/Gold) paint code.

Pickups and Sports Vans will have a gold and parchment interior 625 .

Suburbans and Panels will have fawn interiors.

The pickups, burbs and panels will have chrome bumpers and the side trim option. Not sure about Sports Vans

Pickups two tone paint job will include that Ivory roof and Ivory on the bottom of the truck, as well as the grill .

Burbs and Panels will only have the Ivory on the roof and the grill.

It will at least be a "custom" . It could be a CST. Fine69 has a rare CST 3/4 ton 50th.

Any engine could be had, but most that I have seen have the 327.

I did not have to be a loaded vehicle.

All the information about was deciphered from the 1968 Chevrolet Salesmans Data Book.

You can find some, but not all the pages I used to get this info at the following link.

Is Fine69 CST 3/4 Anniversary a 4X4 or 2X4?

Do they say 551 ivory/anniversary gold or
551 ivory/gold

Fine69's is a 2 wheel drive.

it will say 551 gold/ Ivory, but in the data book it says "anniversary gold".

551 was only available on the 50th model.

I thought the 50th Anniversary was only the paint option. Was it also the interior or did you have to order both. The 50th in my neighborhood is still there (original owner)...it was a 327...I will go check the interior later...get some pics too. It will be mine some day! I am going to drive my flatbed over there just to show the guy that I am serious! He will trade...he still needs a truck...maybe he will take a 1977 short narrow!

In order to be a 50th, It will have the 551 paint code and the interiors I have listed above. If it has that paint code, it will have the interior that is listed above.

In other words, you can not get the 551 paint code with black interior. Here is the page from the data book that will show you that a 50th Anniversary Burb or Panel had to have fawn interior. You could not get any other color with that 551 paint. Pickups (not shown on this page) were only available with the gold and parchent interior with the 551 paint code.

If you had a 555 paint code (two tone Saddle and white) paint code with chrome bumpers, trim and fawn interior on a burb, it would look "real" close to a 50th. The paint colors are very similar.

71402bb on the board has one of these 555 paint code '50th Look a Like' burbs. But I don't think his has chrome bumpers or side trim. He has pictures he can post

If you had that 555 paint code on a pickup it would be a little easier to tellthat it was not a 50th, because you could not get the correct gold/parchment interior. Also, It would have the white top, but not the white lower panels. In 1968, it was only the 50th Anniversary pickups that had the lower panels painted white when they were ordered two tone.

How many were 4x4?

My 68 3/4t 4x4 is missing the glove box door, but has the build sheet. Its a custom 551 ivory gold & 625 parch cloth trim. Also came with 327.

I wish the data sheet on my 68 was intact, the option for color is 551 then it says something about white/gold.
I thought that it would be ivory or something like that.

Actually that might say Ivory White. There is part of that sticker that you can't read because it is torn. But that is a 50th!

You will also see that your sticker has the chrome bumpers and the side trim. And the 625 Parchment/gold interior. Allpart of the 50th package for pickups.

when I got it my 68 3/4 ton Custom it had the 551 paint code, cream and gold bench seat with cloth inlays ( God awful ugly ) . It had a 325 hp 396 with a close ratio 4 spd, air conditioning and heavy duty rear springs . It did not have a chrome front bumper. It was white although that could have been changed at any time. I dont think they are that rare. There are at least 3 in my town of 8000 that I see almost every day. One of them is almost an exact copy of mine except its a 327.

Super rare? No.

Something that makes your truck a little different and special? Yes.

Do you still have those interior parts for sale?

never really had them for sale but if someone wants to trade black for my gold I'd jump on it. Hideous color gold.

I looked this truck over and it was overpriced but the hubcaps really set it off.

I saw it at a dealer in Arlington, Tx.

It looked nice from the pics but closeup it did not impress me as a truck that was worth the $9500 they were asking.
The dealer stated low mileage but from the grease caked on the frame I kinda had my doubts (maybe that was the mileage on the speedo when they replaced the instrument cluster)
If it had been restored it was done by an amateur.
The seat had been recovered and alot of the original interior had been replaced.
It was a long bed six cylinder standard.
A lot of little things that don't show up in photos like weatherstrip
and seals had seen better days. The paint was a respray and the truck was painted like it sits with very little attention paid to masking.
My impression of this truck being as it is would be worth around
$3500 to $4500
