QA1 front crossmember issues.

Hi so I bought some CPP 73 and up modular drop spindles with their standard brake kit p/n 7387SWBK-5 for my 67 c10. It has the QA1 front cross member. The suspension is unloaded on jack stands, there is no engine or trans mounted yet, and the coils are all the way down so no preload on anything, but the limiter cables are installed. The issue I'm having is with my US Mag ramblers 18x9.5, 5.25 bs. There is a spacer for the bump steer for the tie rod end and it scratches the inside of the wheel. Yeah I know I could take it out but it says in the directions it should be compatible with 18" wheels. I also have an issue where my tie rods are adjusted all the way in but my toe is out yet. I called QA1 and they said my toe out could be caused by the springs being unloaded and no wight on the suspension which I could see, but that shouldn't effect the wheel rubbing against the tie rod end with the bump steer spacer installed. I asked them about it and they said it could be a lot of different things such as what type of brake hub and rotor for the spacing of it as well as the backspacing of the wheels. I know this is kinda specific but I was wondering if anyone went down the same route or similar.

Re: QA1 front crossmember issues.

I went with CPP 73 drop spindles (non modular), and have the standard QA1 front suspension (not the new crossmember model) and went with the smaller willwood brakes, everything bolted up just fine. Only had rubbing trying to run the oem 15x8 truck rally rims. Luckily I had some 17" wheels I'd bought 15yrs ago. Runs great, love the ride.

Re: QA1 front crossmember issues.

My understanding is the qa1 crossmember with some 18” setups requires the bump steer spacers to be removed, which isn’t ideal. That info came from one of their videos on YouTube, saw it a couple weeks ago.

Re: QA1 front crossmember issues.

The barrel of your particular wheel is a smaller diameter than qa1 used to test fit. Get a wheel with larger barrel or mill the spacer down a small amount. Milling will simply give you a tiny bit of bump steer. Not likely very noticable. Rubbing a barrel is very dangerous. I was at the track and a corvette had a wheel appear to explode while at speed on track. It took out a rear fender. The hub and inside barrel looked fairly good except there was a clean cut around the wheel. Best we could figure, a small stone wedged between caliper and wheel. The stone was harder than the aluminum wheel and cut a deep enough grove for the barrel to break in half. Bad damage but thankfully no injuries. Sorry a little ot. Given you are running a lot of custom parts, fitment needs to be triple checked.
