Actually, www.crutchfield.com (I have "field" in my last name so that misspelling kinda sticks out to me...)

Also, www.jcwhitney.com used to have a lock on all that kind of stuff. They used to sell a complete plastic headliner that held a stereo and 4 6" speakers. Find a 70's van in a junkyard with slotted wheels on it and it probably still has one in it.

Re: Stereo Bracket for dash????

Thanks. I been looking into gettin a stereo for my truck. I just dont wanna cut the dash up and everything. One guy i know has his mounted under the dash with his wires and everything running under the carpet with his speakers in custom made boxes under the seat. i was thinking about doing the same. But what would be better? under the seat, or behind the seat? The area i live in, stereos seem to be a pretty common stolen item. so i was leaning a little more towards under the seat. but i would like a couple opinions on it first.

Re: Stereo Bracket for dash????

if stolen is an issue,, put the stocker in the dash and get an old broken 8 track player that mounted under the dash(the larger c/b's work as well)
gut it, and mount the radio inside and put the8 track face on a hinge..
under the seat it's on the carpet and faced with dirt/etc.. if you don't like the 8 track idea
in the glove box, if you do this remove the paper glovebox as newer radios get hot and paper and heat don't always mix..
if my dash wasn't already cut, I'd have done the 8track/cb hiding place..

Re: Stereo Bracket for dash????

ya. good ideas. i was think stuff like the less u see, hopefully the less your interested. Thats kinda why i've always tried to tuck my stuff out of sight. I got a butt load of room under my seats, so thats why i was kinda thinkin maybe my speakers can get there. I dont need anything too fancy. Its just this old style radio isn't cutting it. All my stuff is on mp3's now. lol

Re: Stereo Bracket for dash????

I hung mine from a plate under the dash, just to the right of the steering wheel shaft. Thinking of making underseat boxes for the speakers this afternoon.

I used a marine stereo mount and bracket system for my 86 square. Works perfectly and my ash tray is totally functional/accessible.
