I need to replace the two seals and o-ring in the transfer case adapater 350th/np205. I thought I'd take it to the shop, since i'll be gone on a 560 mile bike ride. He quoted me $680! I told him three times, I just need the two small seals, gasket and o-rings replace on the adapter. He repeated $680! His dad was more reasonable, ol' hot rodder and reputation of the shop, his kid living off of his fame. I guess, it'll have to wait until I get back. I'll crawl under and do it myself. They wonder why the small business is going out of business.

Thanks for letting me vent, on to the regular program!

Is the adapter currently in the truck? If so, I'd be willing to bet that almost all of the $680 is labor to drop the xfer case and reinstall it.

If you think about it....remove both drive shafts, drop transfer case, support tranny with tranny jack (or something), remove adapter, replace seals, clean up all four mounting surfaces, RTV, THEN put it all back together.... I vote do it yourself.

That price is not completely out of the question. A lot of labor hours just to get to those seals. I recomend that you have your tranny serviced while they are in there since you already paid for most of the labor already.

I have mine apart at the moment - Does anyone know the part number for those seals?

Thanks SeventyOne. I took my time and got it all done. I used an ATV jack and a large block of wood. (6" lift w/35s) was able to get it all done over the week. Unbolt a bit one day, then more the next, until the weekend and put it all back together again. Saved $680 and I had nothing to do than ask my son to stop jumping in the blazer while I was under it!

These old truck really don't take much to work on...everything is just time consuming and labour costs are always gonna hurt when going to shop. At least you know for next time lol Never goto a shop unless you really can't fix it

I've built a few cars up over the years and this is my 8th K5 Blazer. The additional time is what I need, between 2 kids, wife, job, volunteering, riding my bike, riding the HD, and keeping my other vehicles on the road, the K5 takes a back seat. Sometimes I wish I was rich but I'd still be a tightwad and just own more tools!
