Console Help

So I have this console I bought along with the buckets seat out of a 1971 GMC. My thought was to restore these and put them in my 72 Cheyenne.

Now that i've given the console the once over I'm not sure this is fixable (at least by me) and I think I would prefer the cup holder style instead of these with seat belt holder and ash tray. This one is in decent shape with the exception of the damage in the photo and still has the original Jack Instruction and Storage Tag.

Questions:
Do we have a member on the forum who restores these? Maybe I could swing a trade for this one. I did a search and found some old post on members who did but those look pretty old.

Does this look repairable where the edge has been pushed down and cracked?

Re: Console Help

Looks like a pretty easy fix with some good epoxy , Spend a few hours cleaning it up and use bronze wool on the chrome surfaces NEVER steel wool that makes rust worse . Bronze wool should be in every tool box it works just as steel wool but won't leave small filaments of raw steel in the surface your cleaning to make it rust even further .

Just as the "G-man" says, that's very fixable. Clean it and prep it, then when you do put the epoxy on underside, glue in and clamp a brace in to strengthen the area. On the outside, take your time to get the break back together tightly. Once you're done, it'll be hard to see the fix

Re: Console Help

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it shot on the repair. Even if I wind up trading or selling it helps its value. And G-man thanks for the tip on the bronze steel wool. Guess I need to toss all my other steel wool out and get some of that to keep my chrome spiffed up.

Re: Console Help

Best thing for removing rust that I have ever used is Nevr-Dull. Won't damage surface and actually prevents rust.

Re: Console Help

My NEVR-DULL is so old it's not even Eagle One, it's still in the old blue can. It lasts a long time!

I've also found that aluminum foil is good for "filling in" scratches on hard-chromed metal. Remove the rust first though.
