Fuel Gauge issue 82 C-10

The fuel gauge on my 1982 C-10 only reads from half to empty. I have replaced the tank (small rust hole) and the sending unit. Wiring and the ground seem fine. Next obvious step is to replace the gauge but I'm not into replacing parts without knowing they are actually needed. I only did the sending unit because the tank was out.

Is there anything else I should be checking before ordering a new gauge?

PS: this truck also has a A/market electric fuel pump. I don't know if that could be a concern or not.

Thanks Bacca

Thanks Old Rusty,

I only have a single tank and I've ruled out any wiring harness or ground issues.

With the key on engine off, unhook the sending unit wire--with it unhooked the gauge should read over full. With the wire grounded the gauge should read empty. I personally have never had a problem with the gauge itself on one of these trucks. It has always been a sender or wiring issue.

Re: Fuel Gauge issue 82 C-10

My gauge always worked fine. I changed the sending unit for my LS swap now it only goes to 3/4 when full..When its on E it still has 1/4 tank.
I think the aftermarket sending unit is to blame. (Spectra)
