71 Suburban overhead AC

Just pulled this out and replaced it with aftermarket AC.

I've got everything from the overhead unit to the compressor. Only things not included are the dash controls and the hoses that run from the front to the back. If it it doesn't sell at this price I'll sell the pieces individually.

$250 - no shipping on the complete setup, too big.

EDIT: this price does not include the AC brackets for the engine, I think I have a complete set and will post them in a seperate add when I verify.

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Just curious, did you install aftermarket "rear air"? If so, what brand, and are you pleased with it? Thanks Rob

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Nope didn't install anything in the rear. I'm not aware of anyone that makes aftermarket AC for the rear of a burb. I talked to an AC shop and they "thought" they could make the original AC work with my new Classic Auto Air setup, but I don't have the funds at this time.

Sub

Was it functional prior to removal ?

And do you have the wiring that ran the length ???

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

The previous owner said it worked. He had the motor rebuilt and put headers on it, the factory AC brackets would not work with the headers so he removed the compressor. So...long story short I can't guarantee it works but it should, I tested everything I could and it all worked short of blowing cold air (no compressor). The wiring that runs from the controls at the front to the rear are included. The power wiring is still in the burb but I could throw that in as well.

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

so if one was going from completely no a/c to a/c, what else would they have to buy?

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

I'm including the condensor, drier, hard lines etc, so you would need the rubber hoses from the compressor to the rear. The dash controls don't affect the AC, all controls for it are overhead so no changes there.

You would also need the brackets for the engine, I'd throw them in for another $50...

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Jump on it Kev you know its only gonna get warmer round her.

And its pretty straight forward install, hoses are the hardest part, I might even still have the orig SBC brakets for the Harrison compressor I can let ya have, if I can find 'em.

I have a rear unit hanging in the back of mine, but I need to break it down and refurb it, fans, cover, etc.

And I won't be getting mine going till I add a front "Vintage A/C" unit at the same time and will be trying to figure a set of splitters for the freon.

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

I'm looking pretty hard for one of these right now. Anyone know anyone who may have one or know if the rear AC from say an '89 Burb would fit in??

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Your a little ways a way from me...And the shipping of this thing would be outrageous I imagine if you were to even ship it. I've been looking for one of these on the East Coast and have had one hell of a time...

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Is this a factory '71 Rear AC unit? The '72 units don't have the tunnel to the front do they? What do you do about the headliner/headliner bows?

Re: 71 Suburban overhead AC

Yes this is factory 71 and it goes from the rear to the front. You don't have to do anything with the bows it goes over them and doesn't affect them at all.
