Re: gauge cluster bulbs

They have 194 bulbs stock.
The 168 bulb is a direct replacement and are brighter.
I can't remember how many there are, sorry

One thing you can do to brighten the cluster up is paint the inside of the back piece white. I did that on my '80. It helped immensely!!!

Re: gauge cluster bulbs

When I changed my bulbs I also changed the warning light bulbs too. I think there was 10 total.

Re: gauge cluster bulbs

I think there are 8 or 9 bulbs in there. I bought a box of 10 at Napa when I did mine, and sis not use them all. I also didn't replace the warning light bulbs, turn signal, high beam, etc.

Re: gauge cluster bulbs

paint is a big plus, white can still be dimmed
i also added a second colour....red leds in the 78
wired to be on when the truck is running or can be switched off
and just did the 79 in green, not in Leds tho,can be dimmed

white and green are the regular bulbs, both with painted clusters, only the red is LEDs and no they don't dim

Re: gauge cluster bulbs

Keep in mind the LEDs won't dim with the factory headlight dimmer switch.
I'll go find pics of my white painted cluster and 168 bulbs...

I get painting the back side of that plate white as that would be a reflective surface for the bulbs. Why did you paint the front side white?

I thought it would be different.
It turned out to give kind of a halo effect.
Dunno, I dug it....

Re: gauge cluster bulbs

Those lights and wood are part of an aftermarket conversion.
I had a '88 Burb that was a Mark IV conversion. Had custom wood and lights everywhere.
As far as I know, the conversion companies got/get brand new vehicles and convert them before they are sold to the public.

So are the LEDs just a straight swap or does anything need to be changes?
