Posi question...

I know that on an open diff, the wheels will turn opposite directions, you know, with the tires off the ground, and the way you tell if it's a posi is that the wheels will turn in the same direction. Is there any other condition that would have the wheels turn the same direction other than being posi?

I'm starting to think some PO may have changed the rear end out at some time. The rear brake lines are not stock, and both wheels turn the same direction. I guess I'll have to pull the cover to see for sure.

Thanks

Re: Posi question...

I am going to say no but I am mechanically challenged so lets get some experts to reply.

Re: Posi question...

I would guess you have positive traction. If you're on a dirt road and you spin the tires do both tires leave marks?

Re: Posi question...

This is the rule of thumb, but I have seen the opposite happen in both instances. You'll have to pull the cover to be 100% sure. It's probably due for some fresh lube anyway.

That's the thing-I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago. One of the rear brakes was locked up tight so I trailered it home and got that brake drum off and so far have only driven it into the back yard, very carefully with no brakes. If it is decent weather tomorrow I might get the rear brakes put back together and go for a little test drive As I've been working on these back brakes is when I noticed that the wheels both turn the same way.

Thanks for the info, guys.
