Re: Repo headliner?

No one that I know of these days...

If anyone knows of a vendor offering them now - Please let us know, since I think every early burb owner would love to get a new set.

Re: Repo headliner?

I have a similar problem with the waving of my headliner except I have no missing panels.....BUT it got me wondering about a solution, maybe there is somebody out there who works with wood/masonite.... Could you steam heat the panels back to original shape then re-install them back into the car???? rather than trying to find similar panels?

Re: Repo headliner?

How about just making new panels? There doesn't seem to me anything too complex about the shape. If a person could get the proper material, I doubt it would be rocket surgery. Anybody tried this?

Re: Repo headliner?

hey guys not to sound smart ass but I buy the cheapest paneling I can that has a print design glued to it....the pattern must be kepy on the outside of the bend the keep it from spintering...

I did my truck headliner and console...the local faberic store sells material that is the same as the new cars ( the padded fuzzy stuff) heres a pic of my console you can see the curve

Re: Repo headliner?

I missing some of my headliner panels as well. I was planning on using masonite, forming it nice and snug, taking it back out again and spraying glue on it and attaching the fabric.
I think I'm going to try putting additional lighting all the way back while I'm installing the headliner. Maybe put two spot lights per row of seats. That is how it is on my Excursion and really lights it up nicely.

Re: Repo headliner?

be sure to use 3M super trim ahesive..everyting else is junk

I have issues with masonite because its so hard it breaks and is hard as hell to nail/screw to

the light idea is a great one I'm sure you'll never reget place one with the eyes in the way back so you can turn them on manaully for loading stuff up

Re: Repo headliner?

here is your answer.....for $180.....

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=CHL72SV

good idea to put up some kind of sound deadening while you have access. something directly on the surface to help absorb vibration of that big piece of sheet metal called a roof.

Re: Repo headliner?

I knew someone was reproducing the head liner but it was way more than a $180.00. I will see if i can find out who it was.

Re: Repo headliner?

That's not a reproduction of the OEM hard board headliner for the burb.

It's just a conversion of the original hard board, to a fabric suspension style like what you would see in a 70 something car.

Personally I think they look hideous.

Just me though...

BTW, I bought one and mocked it up and said no way.
Hit me up if you wanna buy it from me.

AW MAN!! I got my hopes up for nothing. I guess that's why they don't have a picture of it.

Re: Repo headliner?

Now THIS is a hideous headliner. It was already installed when I bought my '72 in July 2000. This is the truck that only needed a good frame, and a good body, otherwise it was perfect. I killed it. Now it's all over except the partin'. RIP.

Is the Brothers fabric version worse than this?

I think somebody needs to figure out where to get some of that perforated masonite. I'll take a crack at it.

Re: Repo headliner?

I'd be interested to see how that "reproduction" headliner is fastened/finished off along the sides and front and rear.

As an FYI, the stock perforated masonite material is less than 1/4" - maybe 3/16 or 5/32".
Check the headliner threads. Someone on the forum used some plastic panels that they formed the bends in. Looked pretty good.

Re: Repo headliner?

The fabric style headliner looked bad to me for many reasons, but the ways that one would have to figure out to clean up the edges is what got me discouraged. I went to a good upholstery shop with this, and he showed me his idea's on how to secure the edges - still didn't like it.
I wish I had taken pictures of the burb with one of these style headliners in it that I saw at a show, even though it looked ok it just didn't seem "right" to me.

Then again, I am a guy that prefers the stock OEM look and style. So I am really biased in all this, so what I think looks bad another guy may think it looks great.

I too have seen the plasti-coated paneling used for the headliner, and it looks pretty darn good. It just doesn't have all the perforations like the original paneling did.
Here are some pictures I took of a burb that did this, and up close it all looked very good to me. I am planning on doing this with my burb pretty soon.
I tried this shortly after seeing this cats rig, using mason board that was white on one side and natural on the other. It turned out to be too rigid, and cracked while trying to make it fit at the sun visor corners.
Lowe's has a thinner white material used for shower stalls, it isn't mason board but a fiber/vinyl like material that is rigid but a lot more flexible that the masonite stuff. It's really expensive, something like 45 bucks a sheet. So I am waiting to do this when I have a solid day to spend on cutting and fitting, since wasting a sheet would really hurt the pocket book for me.

Re: Repo headliner?

Big Orange did one in plastic shower surround panels a few years ago.I don't know if he documented it on the forums tho.

If the advert says "bow style" it means it it's nothing like the original...
