can a o/d e trans be converted to manual

I have a o/d E chevy trans with 4 wire coming out of driver side casting above pan not sure of year or trans #. I don't have a control box for it. I am wondering if it can be converted to a manual shift. I 'm on SS and looking for a inexpensive trans for my 66/sb/sub/. It has a 4speed/truck my leg can't push clutch any more. The truck has 411 rear end so o/d will help a lot on gas milage this trans was given to me the oil smells good still red hope something I can use. Any ideas on how I can use this.

Its probably not electronic. What you have sounds like a 700r4. There is no electronics. You just have to wire up the lockup which is very simple. If you post a picture or two we can ID the transmission for you and tell you exactly what you have.

A simple way to tell is if it has a TV cable or not. No cable = electronic trans.

OK it has a cable coming out on the pass side of trans just behind a round steel cap and fittings for cooler lines. It has a 4 prong plug driver side and a round casting just ahade of the tailhousing. What do I need to lock up and get thing ready to install in my 66. I guess blind luck does help me now and then may be this weekend I will make the trans crossmember and cut out the bellhouseing crossmember thank you thank you thank you I will check back later

Why not keep the 4 speed and build or buy a hand control for the clutch pedal.

If yopu do indeed have a 700R4 trans, one very very important thing that will need addressed is the proper geometry and adjustment of the TV cable. If not done correctly, you will burn up that trans in a short time. There are many, many threads here in this section on the 700R4.

+1 on what Captainfab said

I'm also a fan of the Superior hydraulic lockup kits

Just beware this kit doesn't kit some 4L60's
