Question curious about the color scheme of a 72 custom deluxe.

my '72 swb is a medium red ( looks orange to me ) custom deluxe. I would like to know if it had white insert down the side or was solid? how do you tell? also does anybody have a stock 72 that they would send me pictures of the interior and the grille and the rear? Thanks,,, I ve been out of the chevy truck game for some time and i didnt really know how much i missed having one in the driveway!

my 72 custom 10 deluxe has the white stripe down the sides, and a white top. I don't think my interior is original though.

Just ignore the fat man next to the truck, that's just me.

first welcome to the board, and second, look at the glove box decal, it should tell you there, and if not, I know some one on here should be able to point you in the right direction, the people on this board are great, and know what they are talking about,

First of all thanks for the picture ! And my glovebox does have codes and minimal descriptions about the options but not one word about white. I didnt know for sure if "deluxe" meant that level of trim or if it should just say " with white roof and trim".
I'm not looking to restore the truck but someone painted it with rattle cans on the inside and it looks rough. Just want to sand through the runs and get back to a more stock appearance. Its low with wide tires and i like it !

You might be able to see some white paint on the back of the cab. The white stripe wraps a little ways around the cab. If they spray painted it, they might have not been able to get behind the cab.........John

I dont think the exterior was spraypainted , just the inside. I cant find any paint other than medium red. in the doorjambs glovebox, behind the dash etc.

72 should have the plastic door panels and the door will have a screw hole next to were the vent window bar is. Could be they swapped panels or entire door.

Last option on bottom right is how my two tone was listed. May also remove the side markers and look for white paint or remove a little of the top coat to see if it had been repainted?

Here's my interior..........72 Custom Deluxe, original interior, white exterior. Hope it helps. Can't help with the two-tone color question. Seems to me it would say something on sticker in glovebox if the truck had any white on it originally.

my sticker in the glovebox says nothing about white . I like it that way, Yippee! But my door panels are metal and the vin on the door matches the rest of the truck. Maybe they changed just the panel?!? why i donno....? supposed to have a gray interior . I'll post pics tomorrow if i can get them to take.

Yo...GMAN:
I LOVE the Blue interior color and White painted interior! Is that the correct vinyl for a 72?
SWEET!
Give me a shot of the whole truck...
I am planning on doing mine alike this with all White paint and Black interior!

Zooza- if you have a little dimple on the interior part of the door by the vent window, with a screw in it, then your doors are 72 doors. If not then the doors were switched out at one time....the metal door panels don't fit the 72 doors, and the plastic 72 panels don't fit the 67-71 doors. Good luck to ya---hope you can show pics soon! We love pics!!
Welcome from Washington-
Diane

May look at the vin one more time and make sure the 5th character is a 2.
Model Year (5th Digit)
7 = 1967
8 = 1968
9 = 1969
0 = 1970
1 = 1971
2 = 1972

1970 blazin, you just proved to me what I already assumed. My drivers side door is not the original. Does not have the dimple. And it had different holes where the mirrors went. I need a drivers side 72 door now. Will have to save up some money.

I didn`t read all the posts,so this may have been said.`72 didn`t use metal door panels on any models,all molded plastic w/different designs for different models.Custom Deluxe had Scroll&Chrome trim.`72 doors have indentation w/screw under divider channel @ top/front of door.As far as 2-tone paint goes(and you could have solid paint on all model levels),Deluxe 2-tone:top&center in 2nd color,conventional 2-tone:top&lower body in 2nd color,standard 2-tone:2nd color on top.You vin-spec sheet will list this info.

My vin is as follows: cce142a155652 my fifth character is a 4? have I got a rare 74 model ? LOL or is it the fifth character after the numbers start? which would make it really a 71 model?

On 72 chevys it's the 6th character. Why? you ask...

Because in 72 all VIN's were prefixed with an extra "C" to denote Chevrolet. Pre-72, your Vin would have started with only "CE" not "CCE"

Here's the link that I pulled it from, if you need more details. Just drop the first "C" and go from there.
