Learned it myself , you know what you get that way. Other than that, the best way is to check out some of the work from a shop you are considering using. Talk to people who has used the shop, word of mouth will make or break any body / paint shop.

If you are wanting show quality work expect to pay a price for it,the best way to find this type work is to check out trucks and cars at the shows and ask who painted them. Most people dont mind discusing what they paid for the work on thier vehicules.

Remember not to get cheap on the materals, you get what you pay for in this area. Good Luck Chevyman 68 C/10

Most base/clear paint jobs are an average of two grand here. We are not that far from each other, but different areas can be drasticly diferent. Body work is around twenty an hour here, but
this can vary greatly.

You should not have any trouble finding some one around Ennis with a car or truck that is the quality of job you are looking for, ask them where they had thier truck done. I would think with the drag racing and car shows there you would have lots of people to talk to

I dont make my living like this any more. I do one on the side about twice a year, so I do only show work. A job like that starts out at five. But again prices are very varyable from job to job and place to place-you have to shop around.

GOOD LUCK! Chevyman 68 C/10

I'm about half way done with getting mine painted as we speak. All old metal was dipped and taken back to bare metal. Body work done. Primed and painted. The cab was painted inside, the bottom, and the firewall, and then placed back on the frame. I'm installing everything that I'd have to climb over the fenders to do. When I complete that, I'm gonna send it back to the painter, and he'll assemble the rest of the truck and finish painting it. So far, I've spent approx. $4,500 for the paint and body work. He's certified through PPG, and going back to bare metal, and using PPG products, he'd give me a "Lifetime Warranty" on the paint. I hope both of us live long lives.

It's not just the materials and the labor to squirt the paint that make a seemingly expensive paint job. Actually anyone can open cans, mix them together and blow them on a chosen surface ( or in the air for that matter )

What makes a paint job's price go up is the labor to do good preparation to the surface being painted.

When considering paint and body work, price ( your budget or what you can afford ) is really what determines the type ( what your paint job will look like ) of paint job you will get.

$3000 to $5000 may seem high but depending on the condition of your vehicle, it could easily be a ways from show quality. Many show type paint jobs could cost many times more.

Good paint mateials that are well applied will magify any/all even the most minor imperfections and can make what could be a really good paint job look like an amateur/first timer did it.

You might say to a shop to keep the price low "it doesn't have to be perfect" Well what does that mean?

Just remember new paint will definitely MAGNIFY the imperfections, and does the shop want people to ask "who painted your truck?" Knowing that you wanted to cut cost by not doing a good prep job.

Anyway, I guess the point is most of the cost in a good paint job is in the prep, not so much just the materials.
