Shorty Headers

Has anyone found a set of shorty headers for 60-66 Chev/GMC? I have read another thread on this site where someguys were using Chevelle headers for their 67-72's. I always thought that the frames were mostly the same and the headers would fit both eras of trucks, but all of the header vendors have separate listings for them. Thanks in advance.

The frame rails have a wider horizontal cross-section which makes for a little less clearance. For that reason there is sometimes slight clearance issues. Big blocks especially have this problem. I notched my frame with a cut-off wheel 1/2" deep by about 4" long. It turns out that I would have been close but not quite touching. I'm still glad I did it, because it makes even full length header installation a breeze. I have 1-3/4" primaries on my 406 and it still cleared.

Do the "block-hugger headers work on the '60-'63 models w/smallblock? I kinda figured they would, since my truck came with the center-dump rams horn manifolds, but that's a pretty big investment to make, only to find out they can't fit.

Those look cool, but I was hoping to find a part number that I could take to my local speed shop like Hedman, Hooker etc. Ordering stuff across the border is a pain in the A$$. Duty, Taxes, Brokerage Fees etc.

Shorty Headers

I just put dual exhausts on my 66 with 327 V8. I had the problem with the headers and exhaust pipe not clearing the cross member. I had a local muffler shop make me a pipe with 2 each 45 degree bends in it, ($10). I cut this pipe into 2 pieces, each about 5 inches long. I then used one piece for each side, hooking them up to the exhuast flange, with couplers from Autozone. The headers I was using were 2" outlet pipes and the exhaust system I got from JC Whitney were 2 1/4" pipes. So the coupler I bought were 2" on one side and 2 1/2" on the other end. With the 45 degree bend in place the exhaust pipes cleared the crossmember with no problems. I used pipe clamps to hold it all into place until I got it all permanently welded. Using this method I didn't have to notch the crossmember.

Thanks, but because I don't want to run full length headers,(they'll drag on the ground) I'm more concerned with 3/4 length headers interfering with the engine towers.

Slammed66, I'm still hoping you'll come through with the Hooker part number.

i called Rewarder today and the guy there has two 66 chevy trucks himself, any how he said that the chevelle headers fit the same. On another forum a guy told me that he used the patriot 3/4 chevelle headers , but had to change motor mounts to the tubular type like the truck shop sells.
