Re: Factory Soft top?

it was not factory, but it was a dealer option. Someone has posted the ads before, not sure who or where though.

I like how it says "Lifts off quickly,Completely weather tight"
I think alot of the yellow Blazers got the Black top.

Re: Factory Soft top?

I would like to see an original one as well. Mine option list on my glove box shows mine was delivered with a white soft top and a hard top.

Re: Factory Soft top?

Hey, I have one of those tops!! It came with the '72 CST Blazer I bought back in 1984. Sold the Blazer in 88, bought a 72 Jimmy last fall and the guy I bought the Jimmy from actually had my original soft top on the Jimmy. I guess he acquired the top some time ago from the guy who bought my Blazer.
It needs a bit of TLC, but all in all, it's in pretty good shape. I remember it fitting quite snug, but it didn't flap in the wind at all. Nice option.

Cheers
Pete

Re: Factory Soft top?

I have seen one for sale on E-bay a couple of years ago also. Clearly, not many were sold.

Re: Factory Soft top?

Sure fits a lot nicer then the aftermarket ones I've seen. Believe the Black hard top may have come with the smooth finish verses the wrinkle of the white tops. Got one and it looks very original~.

Re: Factory Soft top?

Here's my 72 Blazer with the dealer installed soft top. It fit really well, with no leaks if I can remember correctly. This picture was taken in 1986. The Blazer was sold but I still have the soft top.

Any chance you would lend it out to have duplicates made?

Re: Factory Soft top?

Mike,
I might look into the possibility locally, but I don't think I'd ship the top anywhere. This thing is like gold. It needs a bit of repair as well. The windows didn't survive the twenty year sleep in the garage rafters

Re: Factory Soft top?

I have one laying in my parents basement. In 1984 I took the top off got it painted. I had already spoken to a custom place that said sure we can get you a white soft top. I say here it is. We can't get the top. I have a blazer no hardtop on and No garage. You find me a soft top. I had to wait a week or so. A nationwide search found a Chevy dealer with a factory/dealer optioned black one. I remember stretching and pulling it does fit tight. Anyway rockerboxes failed so everytime I took the top off the body and doors sagged. So I quit putting it on. Saw it the other day Windows are very scratched

Anyway I could borrow/buy it, and does it have all the hardware? STC is not making them again and I don't like the Bestops. Somebidy needs to make a GOOD top.

Re: Factory Soft top?

Mike: When I get a chance I will take a good look at it. My parents are having to move and don't want to. A stressfull time. The only way I saw it was I moved a box that was laying on it and saw it. It's been down there for close to 20yrs with a bunch of stuff on it. I might pick it up and have it come apart in my hands. I am not sure about the hardware. I had just forgot about. It might be a while but I will look and see.
