Big ass clutch pedal spring

I took off that big ole giant clutch pedal spring under the dash to see if it would make for a more comfortable clutch pedal (it does) but got thinking, does this cause anything to mess up. I don't notice anything weird about it but I also got to thinking that there has to be a reason GM put it thataway and i'm sure I would of heard something about it if it was such a great thing to do. Am I wrong, should I put it back?

Re: Big ass clutch pedal spring

well, the weight of the pedal could cause a light 'riding the clutch' condition.
I would hook it back up, and see if you could locate a lighter spring maybe.

Longhorns right I took the spring out of my 61 years ago and it slowly whore the clutch out. Just find a lighter spring any spring that will hold the pedal up

Find a lighter spring. The two spring work together to keep the throwout bearing from riding on the pressure plate and causing wear on the clutch and throwout bearing.

Farm supply stores are a good source for springs like the one you will need.
