59' 4x4 conversion
i have a 2wd 1959 GMC 1/2 ton, i want it to have a serious lift, and 4 wheel drive, i already know that no one actually sells anything close to what i am trying to do, so a chasis switch would problably be in order, but i was wondering if there was any other way to do it. already posted on 4x4 forums. just need some help. THANKS
p.s. if it makes any difference i still got the stock 270 with 4 speed granny, everything basicly stock |

Here you go, at least the way I did it. I modeled mine after one I saw 30 years ago in the Phoenix area. I did the conversion in 1985, with some more up grades this time (power steering and brakes, relocated gas tank, body work). There are different ways to do the steering using Jeep parts too. Mine was converted as well using the stock frame. I don't have a lot of details but, the steering was from a Jeep truck.

My dad did this back in the mid 80s. He put his 55 on 75 chevy 4 wheel drive frame. I don't know exactly how much lift he had under it, but he had some 44s on it, and he put a 427 BBC out of vette. It was a pretty bad truck, according to the stories I've heard anyway. Sadly, he never finished it, due to me being born. Here are some pics of it. We still have it, but it is in bad need of restoration, hopefully we'll get work on it this year.

pics r fine, the tires look huge on the thing! lol, do u know how he lifted it? i.e. customs leafs, kits, etc.

He had custom leafs, and did a shackle flip out back, which was before they ever even thought about doing such a thing. It also had a little bit of body lift, but it's not noticable. Ya, it was the biggest truck in the Florida, Georgia, Alabama panhandle.
