i have a slight leak of transmission fluid from my transfer case and i think i might just put some transmission stop leak in it...what do you guys think good or bad idea

I had the same problem, change the gasket and resolve problem, my transmission is a th700r4

If that kind of stuff really worked Aamco would be out of business.. That stuff usually does more harm than good, and frankly i would only use that if i were stuck in some backwood county and heard the drum beats of "Deliverance" approaching as i popped the hood of the truck.

if you use anything use lucas what t case do you have. if it is a np208 use lucas trans fluid. if it uses oil use lucas oil additive.just read the bottle and get the one for that kind of lube.

I agree. If you are planning a rebuild in the near future, and are just wanting a quick fix then go for it. Other than that I would go ahead and change the gaskets and new fluid.

x2 on lucas. I'd put it in there even after you fix the leak. But it's thicker and won't go out the leaks as easily. My th400 had a tad of a leaky converter seal and was slipping and I was planning on a tranny rebuild. I put the lucas in and now it doesn't leak, and shifts right with no slipping, so the tranny can be put off for a WHILE. I put the oil stuff in my old 400 before I rebuilt it and it cut my bad main seal leak in half. it makes a good band-aid, but it is just a band-aid if that's what you're using it for.

X3 on the Lucas, my 79 was leaking all over the place before i pulled it out, its in the rebuild stage now

A lot of guys here have probably never seen the movie Deliverance.

Back to the question at hand, take the time to fix the leak. Stop leak products have a tendency to plug other orifaces that need not be plugged.
