69 C-10 winter projects - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Since I bought a 55 Chevy sedan back in 2003, my poor 69 pickup has been getting nothing but neglect. OK, I replaced the driver's door hinge pins and window regulator, and even bought it some new tires. (The old ones had plenty of tread but were cracking after 9 years!) I also had an interior guy rebuild and cover the seat.

Here's what I plan to do this winter:

Install Auburn limited slip along with new pinion bearings, carrier bearings, and axle bearings. I may even replace the 3.07 gears with 2.76, but not sure a 10% reduction in highway RPMs justifies the expense and effort.
Install new Moog control arm shafts, ball joints, tie rod ends, and idler arm. (Parts I've been collecting since 2001.)
Finally, replace rusty, leaky, headers with Dorman ram's horns.

Just thinking out loud here!

Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman. Worked part-time over the years for an engine builder and a classic car repair shop. Member here for 23 years! This is the very first car/truck Internet forum I joined. I still used a dial-up modem back then!
