Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

I am new to the 4x4 world I am putting my 65 chevy on a 77k20 frame. I have a
Th400 2wd trans that I want to use. In my research I found that the some of the 205 figure 8 style transfer cases use the 2wd th400. Does any one know what years of trucks I can find a 205 32 spline transfer case setup for the 2wd th400 ?

Thanks.

Pick N pull is having a half off sale this weekend so I am hoping to find the right one.

Any 32 spline 205 will work with the 2wd TH400 as long as you have the adapter that goes with it.

Measure the output shaft sticking out of the tranny. If it's 6.5" then you use the adapter and case off an early 400/205. 84 and older.

All 1980 Gm trucks that are 4wd will have a 205, so find a 3/4 or 1 ton, long as it's an auto.

After 80', only 1 tons will have the 400/205. Prior to 80', 3/4 and 1 tons will have it, but can't remember how far back. Think it's only to 77/78.

Advance adapters sells various coupler sleeves to mate the various np205s to various transmissions. For instance I think they sell a 32 spline to 10 spline coupler sleeve.

as long as the adapter is for a 400/205 and it mates to the 205 you have than it will work. so if you are going to a pick-n-pull than just make sure the tranny u pull it from is a 400

Re: Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

well I tought I was on the home stretch on this project but It appears that the transfer case sits to lower using the original 205 crossmember. I thought all 205 crossmembers where the same ?? how to I do I get it to sit about 3-4 inches taller ? Is there a different crossmember i need or different mounts ?

Thanks again.

Re: Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

Can't you slide the crossmember you have up the frame, trim the top side flanges and drill new holes? If not maybe a piece of 2, 3 or 4" steel tube with trans mount to fit. Bolt bottom the cross member, top to mount and you are ready to go.

Re: Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

Thanks for the help I think that would work for the length but the other problem I have is where the front drive line connect to the transfer case it is to close to the crossmember.. I may just have things jacked up. I'll take picture and post when I can.

Re: Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

I had my NP205 machined for the TH400 output, I broke a couple of adapters and now it holds together just fine.

Re: Th400 & 205 transfer case what years ?

there are tall and short TH400 adapters, each with its own crossmember. I'm not sure which trucks came with what, but the difference is 2 1/2 - 3 inches.

All GM light duty trucks with automatic transmission from 1974-1979 had the 203 transfercase as standard equipment.
