I'm not positive but I'd think the whole xmember with a-arms and the steering components. all that. might need a diff steering gear box too. BUT this is kinda a guess

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

I'm 90% sure the frames are different. I remember checking into making a 2wd a 4wd and that is what stopped me. If it was me and I had to did it. I would find another frame to swap my body over on, or just find a 2wd blazer.

You could convert 4wd to a 2wd the way GM did it... (like the 2500HD 2wd trucks) leave the 4wd suspension... just remove everything and then disassemble the CV axles to put the splined ends through the hub assembly.

thats the best way to do it. and if you ever decide to do a v8 swap, it will make it very easy. you can run whatever oil pan you want too, unlike the factory 2wd

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

do a v8 swap and an awd swap. Use the xfer case from an awd astro or bravada and make a syclone/typhoon style truck. I researched it a while back and they used the 4wd frames for them i think.

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

here let me set it up for yall. i bought this car feb. this year. i didnt check it out all the way when i bought it cause it was only 450 bucks. at first i thought it need just a hub and an axle, upon further inspection i found out it needs the front diff replaced, but i dont know if i wanna do that or say screw it and make it 2 wheel drive. i wanna put a v8 in it, but im kinda wanna leave it v6 for my dd....im just having a hard time findin a pair of diffs that match. the owner before me also swaped out the rear for an 01 blazer rear for the disk on the back and im not sure of the ratio cause im having trouble findin the numbers.

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

i wouldnt say that leavin it v6 would make it more daily driver friendly. the 4.3 v6s dont get very good gas mileage at all. my 02 slammed 2wd got at best 16mpg around town. and 18 mpg on the highway. my gmc sierra with a 5.3 gets better than that. i did just buy myself a 4x4 jimmy. its a 1990. my plan is strictly aimed at performance. but i plan to do a 5.3l bored and stroked to 383, a 4l80e, awd transfercase and front axle from the astro van they were talking about above, and possibly a small turbo. really it all comes down to what your gonna do with it. i want to haul the mail and launch outta the whole like theres no tommorrow. what are you wanting to achieve?

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

thinks for all the input everyone!!!! it is very helpful!!! i think i kinda wanna do a typhoon project.... i have one more question..... would it be better to keep if fuel injected or carb wit a v8? the blazer as it sit has a 5 speed tranny in it.... im not sure if the computer is hooked up to it or not...

Re: 4x4 to 2 wheel drive

things usually change for the better. so id say fuel injection would be the better way to go. keeping the 5 speed may present a problem. they arent rated for very much torque. with a 2wd that had skinny tires id say keep it because you will spin the tires before you break the tranny. but if you want to do the awd thing then that 5 speed with a v8 infront of it..... well i dont see it lasting that long.
