My buddy had this Camaro brought to him to paint. He told me all about it before I came over to check it out. Seeing it in person is worse than hearing about it. From what I understand someone had previously tried to paint it, but did not have something mixed right so I guess it never completely dried or didn't dry right. When I went over to see it, it looked like it had been sitting under a tree for 20 years or something, my buddy said that was where it didn't dry and everything had settled on it. I guess it was supposed to be a candy orange with black stripes, and they literally power washed the orange off. So now it's left with old dried up tape, dust buried in the paint, and orange paint chips stuck all over it. We spent a few hours tonight sanding. I am very interested myself in seeing how this turns out.

I feel so bad for the poor thing, it has so many layers of paint, the original red then a soft gold color, and then this mess. It seems to have been a little abused

It's not going too bad, lots of sand paper. I've not gotten into much body work so I'm just a man with a sander, trying to help a buddy try to make a buck, don't think he's minding the free help as long as I don't slow him down.

We've got the hood, driver's side and rear deck lid pretty much ready for primer. I started sanding on the nose piece, but it's not going too well, because the paint or whatever I'm trying to sand off is gobbing up on the car and the sander. It's done the same thing on the rest of the car, but much worse on the bumpers and trim pieces. All in all I think we're doing good.........I think

The goings are a little slow but I think we're still making progress. Just about ready for primer on the driver side and I got the hood and rear deck lid all sanded down

Anyone know why the rear deck lid goes down so low?

you can see in these pics of the nose where, when you try to sand, it just heats up and smudges, it does this on the disc also.

I would pull the bumpers and use stripper. Sanding them down is going to make for an even bigger headache.

What's the best thing to use for stripping the bumpers and trim? This is pretty much his project, I'm just a sander, and this is my first go round with body and paint, so I don't ask many questions, I just sand

I would use aircraft stripper or something similar.
