Anybody build their own headers?

Hi guys, I usually don't post outside of the 47-59 thread but Im getting to the point where Im going to build my headers for the 5.3 ls I put in my camaro clipped 59. I have a bunch of U bends, straight tube, collectors, o2 bungs, and the flanges on their way. I was hoping if anyone could give some insight on approaches to fabricating them. I have thought of using welding wire like shown here: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ers/index.html but I'm just asking you guys to see if there's any more input out there.

thanks.

Re: Anybody build their own headers?

You need to figure out where you want your collector to sit and bridge the gap. Avoid all the linkages etc on the way. its a trial and error process. Hangers are a good idea but when clearances on tubes will be an 1/8 of an inch or less a hanger is useless. You just have to start building the tubes. tack them together. Once everything is together and fits finish weld each joint and keep checking fitment. Its a long tedious process and theres really no straight forward easy way to do it.
