slow start

My new 89 Jimmy has to turn over a few times before it starts up. What's causing this? Is it something simple I can replace or rebuild?

Need more info... Do you have to crank it for 10 to 30 seconds? Or just a few revoloutions?

try replacing the fuel filter and putting a can of seafoam in with your next fillup of gas to clean the injectors

would not hurt to also remove sparkplugs and clean and gap them or better yet replace them

Just a few revolutions Gary.

cdowns, will do, have that on the to-do list anyways, along with a TBI rebuild. Plugs are supposed to be fresh but I haven't checked them.

Always regap plugs out of the box. a single spark plug part number will fit many vehicles with different gaps. Plus there will be variances between all 8 plugs as well.
