another AC question, but this one is easy!
so when i bought my truck the AC compressore was gone, i still have most of the plumbing. but was just curious if there is a performance advantage to removing the AC? if not I'm thinkin Mr. PO decided to not fix it when/if it went bad.

I don't think there's enough difference on a street truck, Least not in my case Hehe !!!
I don't drive/ride in anything without air, But that's me.....

Just leave it off and that's the same as taking it off, least it wont take value away from a good truck. Just my opinion.
the compressors are kinda spendy so he probably just didn't fix it. |

Ya taking the horn off frees up a ton of weight and will be better at the track

Re: another AC question, but this one is easy!
Funny..... One isn't in a hurry to re-install the A/C compressor ( Alaska)
The other will never run without it ( Florida) A tough one to figure out..... I'm in Southern California..... ( kinda in the middle)... But my compressor blew up in 110 degree heat in Bakersfield, driving down Hwy. 99. I thought a tire blew out...... I waited for the "funny feel" and it never happened. Then no A/C. I have yet to replace it. I am going to replace the entire system under the hood. I put an adapter in the place of the compressor. The sticker above the grille show's a serpentine running "W/O Air". It is impossible. I then realized you had to get the wheel to replace where the compressor was. Looking at that photo, I need to replace those wire harness wraps!! |

even though I'm in Alaska, I do like having AC im not in a huge hurry because I've never had it in a truck. I've only had power windows in a truck once. my other 2 cars are loaded though, except leather. (leather cracks when sat in during extreme cold)

Re: another AC question, but this one is easy!
I have a wholesale account with
http://www.autosupplyhouse.com/ Just ordered a new compressor for my wife's Durango yesterday. $144 for a new one not reman. All 3 parts came to $170. I too am not living without A/C. For those without access to vac and recharge equipment, it can get expensive. |

Re: another AC question, but this one is easy!
To AC or not to AC, that is the question.
I once bought a '64 Bonneville convertible, from the guy who ordered it new in Michigan. It was Honduras maroon, with a black leather interior. The top was black. I was determined to get a ragtop, knowing I was heading to AZ. While out there, I happened to get the bug for a new VW. The dealership wouldn't talk about a trade-in, if it didn't have air. I was told that in AZ, junkyards made you pay to leave a car there that didn't have AC. That was in '70. Fast forward....it wasn't until '79 that I had a car with AC. Then, the ex-wife took it. Dang, no AC. My '67 Impala had air, but it didn't work. Neither did my '67 Skylark. It wasn't until my wife and I got married in '81, that I had a car with air, and it was her car. But, since then....haven't been without AC in a vehicle. My '69 had air as does my '96. But, I'll drive w/o the air if I'm going to be out in the weather. I don't like the cold/hot/cold/hot, so I'd rather sweat like a pregnant nun at confession, than go thru the change. Roll the windows down and drive like you stole it....air moving on sweaty skin will cool you down....

Living in Alaska I might want to be able to keep cool while keeping those monster skeeter bugs out of the cab. Refit it and use when neede. SPEEDY I live across the james from you and I agree climate is needed.
