71 c10 two peice or solid drive line

i was wondering what is better when lowering 71 c10 1/2ton im going 5 inch springs in rear 2 inch springs in front with 3 inch lowering spindles ,, and then 2 inch blocks in rear .,. but wanted to know what is better 2piece driveline or a solid one ?,,, if i need to change drivelines im changing trannys from 350 to 400 ,,

I prefer a 1-piece drive shaft.

Good thread! I'm in the same boat ('64 longbed, 5/7 drop, 350/700r4) and am also pondering the 1-piece/2-piece driveshaft issue. I'm very interested in the responses to this thread.

I have a one piece drive shaft in my 72' C10 SB, but I also have a 700R4 so its not terribly long. I think for extreme lowering I would prefer a two piece unit so that the cab and trailing arm crossmember dont have to be raised to reach the axle at full dump. Im sure there are advantages/disadvantages to both....

its long bed , im gonna go stick the springs in it in a litte bit and then im gonna order either the 2.5 or 3 inch front spindles ,,

CHEVYRESTOREGUY what size are those rear tires in your pic ,, i have a 56 and want to get around the same size ,those look bad aSS

In my avatar, the truck had the old wheel/tire combo. Those were 29x15.50-15 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans on a 15x10 magnesium Torq-Thrusts. The rims were too narrow for the tires, so the sidewalls were really swollen. I sold the wheels to a guy in Pennsylvania who is building a '57 Chevy gasser, and I sold the tires to a local guy who is building a T-Bucket.

Currently, the rear tires on the '55 are 29x15.50-16 Hoosier radials. They had them on closeout for $80 each (!) so I bought 2 sets. I guess they weren't big sellers because of the 16" diameter. The rims are ET Fuelers 16x12 with a 5" backspace. My build thread shows much better pictures of the old and new combo.

One of these days, I'll get back on that truck.........Gotta finish my '64 parts runner first.

I always prefer a one piece shaft, even if I have to compromise top speed in order to have it.

A good drive line shop can make a double shaft as good are better than a singal. I had my first one done about 1990 when I installed the 700-R4.
I had to have it cut and rebalanced with a new carrier bearing installed.

I had the carrier redone about 1 year ago now.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
