Cage/bar with modified frame - in SLOW truck?

Done a lot of reading of rulebooks and online and really haven't found my answer.

I'm looking at relocating the frame of a square body truck, basically channeling the cab and moving the frame box further outboard - like just inside the rocker outboard. To stiffen the chassis I'm going to need some bracing, and it looks like I could run the roll bar right down the cab pillar. I like to run at the track occasionally, low 20's with my 130hp 250 inline. All the rules regarding cages and bars indicate nothing is needed until 13's or so. But they all stipulate unmodified floor and firewall which will defnitely not be the case. And as you guys have stated if you have it it's got to be legal even if it's not required. So am I going to have to put a full cage in this thing because of the frame, floor, and firewall modificatins?

Re: Cage/bar with modified frame - in SLOW truck?

More and more and more NHRA tracks are being gobbled up by IHRA. I was told yesterday there is only 1 MHRA track left in FL,, after the end of this month there will be NO NHRA tracks in AZ (until / when / if the issue with firebird / speedworld is resolved) . As I understand it IHRA is more forgiving for the 'show' vehicles 13's and slower, and IHRA tracks have more 'wiggle room' to impose 'track rules'. That meaning for non sanctioned events they can allow / dis-allow whatever making things more racer friendly then the staunch NHRA rulebook.

That said,,, NHRA says if you alter the firewall or floow, (more then 2sq feet for trans / clutch inspection) you MUCT have a CAGE, (not a bar) . Cars required to have a cage are required to have a SFI window net, a SFI trans shield, a SFI flexplate shield..... Most of this stuff expires every 2-4 years and gets thrown in the scrap heap and replaced with something with a new SFI sticker.

Ya, that's what I figured by reading earlier posts. Guess I'll build a seperate drag truck. Maybe I can get it into the 18's.
